I'd like him to take it even further and honour Stanley Kubrick by fullfilling his desire to make a Film epic that can outshine Sergei Bondarchuk's work (Waterloo and War & Peace).

Personally I would say that he has done quite a few good movies since Jaws although I can understand your scepticism, after seeing the latest Indiana Jones movies it is quite clear the man can create works on both ends of the quality spectrum!

Really I just don't see this as the kind of thing I would associate with Spielberg so I don't really know what to expect (or rather, I do, but I'd rather hope it isn't the case).

You didn't like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun, Minority Report, Saving Private Ryan etc?

He made the excellent mini-series Band of Brothers, The Pacific as well as private Ryan, so he has form in crafting solid battle scenes.

Hmm... Better find out how to revive dead people and let Bondachuruk and Kubrick do it together...

Overall I would say it was no where near Band of Brothers, however, I believe that the combat scenes were better then Band of Brothers.

More likely we'll be seeing a lot of Austrians, Russians and some Prussians. Next to no British unless they take it all the way from the Revolution to Waterloo.

Frankly it'll be refreshing, even from my Anglo-biased view.

City of Life and Death had very good battle sequences in its beginning as well, and it's the most grounded and balanced film about the Nanjing massacre made to date by the Chinese. I can't imagine its director would be very passionate about Napoleon though.

No one has ever hoped Michael Bay would do anything. Except maybe die.

The one good thing about Spielberg is that he will certainly be able to get a decent budget for the project. Maybe we'll see more than a dozen soldiers at once, unlike that terrible miniseries that came out about a decade ago.

Considering what they can do with computers nowaday, I say, does it matter?

If they make a Waterloo scene without showing or naming NL troops, I'll burn down the cinema...
