Title: The Witcher Series 1,2 and 3

The Witcher.... such a fantastic, underrated series. Makes me wonder how on Earth there is not a thread for this.

The Witcher 3

Watch this badass trailer before reading on.

The Witcher 2 is my 2nd favorite RPG of all time and sets the bar for all modern RPGs, and that bar is about to be set higher. Call me a sucker, but Witcher 3 is GOTY for me. An Open world with all the glory of a Witcher game? Hell yeah! What could possibly be better than a PC focused, open world RPG with amazing story, memorable characters, mind blowing visuals, tactical cRPG combat and an amazing soundtrack to go along with it? Hint: Nothing

To add onto that, CD Projekt Red are like the most amazing AAA developer's out there. They are the only game studio that comes to mind which I can trust will never make a bad game nor business decision. They believe in PC gaming first, no DRM, no micro transactions, no censorship and no paid DLC. They work purely out of passion, and it shows in their games.

Here is a gameplay trailer:

Honestly, if you don't get the Witcher 3 hype from watching that, you are not human  :o

The Witcher 2

Not much that hasn't been said already about the Witcher 2 can be said. It truly is one of the finest RPGs crafted.

Oh, and it is home to my favorite videogame trailer of all time.  ::)

The Witcher

The Witcher 2 improved on almost every aspect of the Witcher 1, but it is still a great game and definitely worth the playthrough for the story. The game played almost 100% differently compared to the Witcher 2, it was more of a Dragon Age combat system, but regardless, the story and immersion of the game are fantastic.

If I recall correctly there is only 3 translated to English and there is like 8 in the series, plus a comic series.

Buy the whole series bro, you won't regret it. Witcher 1 starts out realllllyyyy slow, but the story picks up in episode 3, gameplay is decent all the way through, but if you play 1 first, you not only learn the story but your decisions carry over a-la mass effect style. Witcher 2 is absolutely phenomenal.

One other thing, the GOG versions are better than the Steam versions, they have no DRM.

Lucky o: I guess it would be easier to translate Polish to Russian than Polish to English /:

I think it's not matter of how difficult it is to translate the book, but rather of how much can author/publisher earn on it.

And to stay on-topic, I don't remember much from first game, but the second one is probably best RPG I've ever played. Beautiful graphics, great story, living world, a lot of realistic characters and of course many choices to make. And every damn choice in this game is too difficult to make :P

I agree, this is easily going to be one of the best Western RPGs ever released, but unfortunately there is no sense sharing with this community, 95% would rather play a rehashed Assassin's Creed before they play a fleshed out and beautiful RPG of the caliber of the Witcher. An unfortunate truth. Along with this trailer they also announced a release date, February 24th, 2015. My body is ready.

Also that horseback combat.... hnnnnngggg

Witchers are mutated mercenaries that kill monsters for money, but are often involved in political intrigue and strife. It's basically an RPG with tactical combat, a great story, amazing graphics and lots to do. One of if not the best RPG available is the Witcher 2.

So in the Witcher 2 did I miss something? I finished the game a few days ago and I was watching an old trailer for it and they were showing you meeting the King of Redovad or something and this little girl that comes with you and stuff. I never met no little girl and only met the King of Redovad when I was in that prison during the last chapter. Do you know what choices you'd have to make to accomplish that other stuff?

You have to choose Roche's path to do that, if I recall correctly. If you haven't done Roche's path yet, it's definitely worthwhile since it completely changes Act II of the game.

Spoilers for Witcher 2
Taking Roche's path and making the right decision can result in strong, united Temeria with Foltest's little girl as the queen. This could prove vital in the War against Nilfgaard in Witcher 3.

I've never actually played the Witcher series, but, from what I've been told, it's phenomenal. CD Projekt Red are also the solution to online piracy imo - they have a very positive image in the gaming community as a whole, and I'm prepared to buy any of their games, SP or not, just to support them. GOG is also a lovely platform for indies.
Fuck EA.

Nvidia GTX 970. Already got the card. Just confirmed the code I got with the card for the game today. Unfortunately, it doesn't let you redeem the key on steam. Just some weird website called GOG. http://www.gog.com/ But hey, I got the game for free, so not complaining.

Looks pretty good so far. I'll take a further look later. Probably wasn't caring about it because I wanted them to give me a steam key rather then a website I never used before. Is it like humble bundle where they give you a steam key after you buy from them, or make you use Origin. Or like just download to desktop kind of sites.

They're completely DRM free, meaning once you purchase a game from there you're free to do whatever you want with it. That means you just directly download it from their website and you don't need any external programs, online account or any other annoying shit to play it, and you can transfer it to any computer you want with no hassle or restrictions. I'm not sure if they do offer steam keys with their purchases, but I'm fairly sure it is an option. But really though, why would you want a steam key? It's almost 100% just worse to have it tied to steam. You can already add non-steam games to your steam library and play them that way anyway. There's literally no downside to having it completely DRM free.

Post by: Devmc99 on April 12, 2015, 05:14:16 am
I usually like to have my stuff all in one place. But that DRM free stuff sounds good. Since it seems that's how they are going to give me Witcher 3 that way. I've looked into it some more. Looks pretty cool so far with some old cool games. Might pick out one or two later.

You can still have your games in one place by using the function on the bottom left side of the window to add non-steam games to your library. They still function like any steam game except you can't access their community hubs or see how many hours you have and all that.

"Wolves asleep amidst the trees,
Bats all a-swayin' in the breeze,
But one soul lies anxious, wide awake,
Fearing all manner of ghouls, hags, and wraiths.
Beds are silent for the night,
Cows turned in as daylight dies,
But one's always anxious, wide awake.
For the Witcher, brave and bold,
Paid in coin of gold.
He'll chop and slice you,
Cut and dice you,
Eat you up whole.
Eat you whole"

I'm no where near 100% completion yet and I've played 69 hours (I do every sidequest, bounty, etc). And too my knowledge I'm not even that close to the end of the story yet (I'm on the final island though). One of the most immersive games where you start to really think about which choices you should take to get the outcome that is best for your play-style. Though it did annoy me how lots of the choices I made in Witcher 2 had no real affect on Witcher 3.

There is a reason a Witcher carries two swords, one for monsters and one for humans. So both depends which area you are in tbh. In Novigrad you mainly fight humans where as on Skellige I found I fought more monsters. And yes you can travel to any part of the map at any time (though some quests or bounties get cancelled out by others, which is why I like to do all sidequests and bounties before I carry on.

Played like 180 hours by now and finished the game twice (with the first dlc which is awesome and challenging) never seen such an interesting fantasy world with such an in-depth lore. Fuck Elder Scrolls thats casual rpg fantasy for everyone imo. You should also have a look at the books and former games since they are great as well.

I am preparing a fresh rerun of the entire series very soon. So far got 80 hours on Witcher 1, 110 on Witcher 2 and 130 on Witcher 3. Been a while since I last played so it's time my favourite series is given another rerun.

I can definitely tell you that any money spent on the Witcher 3 is money well spent. It's absolutely amazing and the DLC are just as good (and almost as long) as the main game!

I played on the middle setting, think it was called Story and Swords!, most of the time I got by alright (as long as I didn't charge in with low health or into stupidly high level monsters). Only a few bosses caused me some difficulty but once I learned their patterns even that wasn't too bad.

Dodge, parry and roll a lot. And learn to use your signs in combat. Especially Quen if you have difficulty surviving.

Alright thanks for the tips.

Also is there any fast healing? Like something without food? I'm like in a sort of cave, and I ran out of food and every time I respawn again I have like less than a half health points.

Craft potions, particulary the Swallow potion. There is also a perk which you can unlock by leveling up that gives faster Health regeneration.

I did literally every quest/bounty I could before advancing through the story to be honest. Even just general exploring helps build your character.

What are the best armors and weapons?

Like best light, medium and heavy. The best in those perks. I know I'm still on a low level. But I just want to make it sure for the future.

I kinda just used what I picked up till I had all the Witcher recipes, as they are very solid once you can afford to craft them. Perks kinda depends on your play-style and personal preference to be honest.

Hmm, Medium armor would be my playstyle I think. I don't really use Signs often and I like to tank. I do use Quen a lot. But those others not really.

agility(light) vs protection(heavy). thats it really, depends on your fighting style what you are going for. I always liked the Feline Witcher Armor more, because I like to dodge and stuff. But really its your decision.

signs are, without a doubt, your best assets - learn to abuse them

What he said. Signs are some OP shit

Generally, each type of armour has it's own fighting style.

Light - Best used for a DPS build using fast attacks. Doesn't give much damage protection so you have to dodge and roll a lot and kills things before they kill you.
Medium - Best used for a stable mix between doing damage and having some sort of protection. Also best suited if you really wanna get the most out of your signs.
Heavy - Best used for a tank build, not a lot of DPS buffs but plenty of damage reduction.

Hmm yeah might even use these signs more if they do help.

Any armor set you prefer for a medium build? I had some upgrade points left and added them to my sign abilities. Must admit that my Aarde one is a bit more powerful.

tbh neaxus: Just experience it on your own. If you wanna be gamey on this game there are builds so OP you will never worry about your life again. This makes the Game boring. Really just try some stuff out.

the wolf school set is a good medium armour, increases attack power and sign intensity. if i remember correctly the required level isn't too high either, before you upgrade it anyway.

in agreement with caz though, you won't appreciate the game in its entirety if you always ask for advice.

Yeah that's a fair point. It's just such a big game hehe.

As others said, later on in the game you get a couple of quests that enables you to go hunting for various crafting schematics so that you can craft so called 'Witcher gear'. These are the best armour sets in the game and each has different buffs, all depending on which 'School' you decide to pick. There's a couple of sets for every armour type. Wolf School gear is seen as the best all round, medium armour that gives moderate damage and defense buffs, as well some buffs to your signs. Basically the Jack of All trades armour in the game.

But honestly, I wouldn't be too worried about trying to get the best stats and items in the game. Just take it easy and enjoy the story, the lore and the characters.
