Unfortunately ladies and gentlemen, the War to end all Wars didn't live up to it's namesake. A lot of people fought and died in World War I, for both sides.

My Great-Grandfather was a cavalryman in that war. He rode horses in Europe and Greece, lost a foot and was gassed. He didn't win any medals, he was just another soldier. But he had a story none the less, and I'm sure your ancestors have one themselves.

We should remember those who fought in that conflict that started 100 years ago this year. So please, post who in your family fought along with their regiment and battles if you can. I'll make a list of everyone.

Sort of unrelated but a somewhat distantly related relative fought in the British forces that put down the Easter Rising. I don't know if he was involved in any fighting on the continent.

Had a lot of family fight in WWI. Some as American coastal artillery, some in the navy, and a lot in the army. A lot were fighting in France. I know I had some British family fighting as well, but not sure where.

My great grandfather was a major in the k.u.k. Common Army.
I don't exactly know where he fought.

Members of my mother's family probably served in the Reichswehr.

Probably, most likely the Russian Civil War though. Not anyone I can directly name though.

My Grand Uncles fought in the US Army.

Would those be your great grand uncles?

One of my ancestors was an officer in a russian artillery regiment until 1917 where he and his family were stowaways on a cattle ship to England

My Great Grandfather (had kids late in life) fought in the US Army during the first world war. Due to his very common name and his early death in my grandma's life we don't know very much about his service. I'm glad to be on the few lucky ones who can still hear oral stories from the war from my grandmother. I really should write them down.

Been a while since last post on this thread, but no matter.

My Great-Grandfather served in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry as a Machine-gunner before being wounded at the Somme and being sent home. My Great-Uncle served as a Serjeant in the West Yorkshire Regiment, and went MIA after he was caught in a depot explosion at Arras.

My Great Grandfather served in the German combat engineer corps. Unfortunately I don't know his rank or unit.
