Off Topic / The Great YouTube Apocalypse
« on: December 14, 2013, 01:08:18 am »
Hello everyone.

As many of you know by now, YouTube just implemented a new copyright system. Many of you also know that this new system has basically caused riots all over the internet.

So I figure we may as well talk about it here. What's you guys' opinion of the new YouTube copyright system?

General Discussion / [Suggestion] Realism/Arcade Game Types
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:49:20 pm »
So, there are many suggestions done on this board for BCoF. Many of them would make the game more realistic than NW is in it's current state, so here's the idea:

When BCoF, there would be two different game types than servers could be set on, like how it's done in Red Orchestra.

One would be Arcade mode, which would be like what NW is now. It's got some realistic factors but it's main goal if for public play and just to have fun.

Then, there would be realism mode. This would have those features which make the game more like an actual war. Stuff like uniforms degrading, misfires, composure, debuffs, more realistic damage and fatigue.

(NOTE: This would mean that there would be different types of the modes that already exist, this would not replace game-modes like Battle and Conquest)

General Discussion / [Suggestion] Composure System
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:35:27 pm »
So, after reading the Debuff thread, my mind started whirring a bit. I was wondering if a massive debuff system could be installed

If the guy next to your or your CO dies, it drops dramatically. If Artillery starts firing near you it also has an effect, as well as being under heavy fire. It increases if you have your flag next to you, are not around any enemy soldiers or taking any artillery fire, or just finished a massive battle/charge which ended in your favor.

Being well composed would give bonuses such as increased accuracy, better melee speed and a steadier camera.

Being ill-composed would lead cause you to have less accuracy, worse melee and a camera which is unstable.

NOTE: This would be used in a "Realism" mode of the game, not the "Arcade" mode which would be mainl suited for Public Play (Think Red Orchestra 2)

General Discussion / New Faction Poll (Strictly theoretical)
« on: November 21, 2013, 12:31:52 am »
Now, we all know we've got a decent amount of factions in NW. I realize that we'll probably never get another update for this game because FSE is putting all their resources into BCoF (And God bless 'em for that).

But I'd just like to toss the idea around for a new faction, just incase FSE ever comes back to NW after BCoF and gives us a little loyalty gift or something :P

So, pick from the above nations people of NW! If a nation you want (NOT. MONTENEGRO.) isn't on the poll, just write it in the thread.

Also, maybe Montenegro if you really want it. Must be fair.

Historical Reenactment / World War II Reenactment unit search
« on: November 13, 2013, 03:15:04 am »
Hello everyone

I remember not that long ago I came here asking for help with my ACW equipment search, which I'm thankful that y'all were able to help me in. Now I need another hand.

I've been hearing that a ton of people have been starting WWII reenactments in the nation. I would really, REALLY want to join up (Plus equpiment isn't overly expensive), but I run into a small dilemma. I can't find any WWII units near me.

I've checked but I can't find any in New England at all. Infact I can't even find any in the North East part one in New Jersey, and that's a ways away for me to get too.

So, while I continue my search, I ask if anyone here can give me a hand looking for a unit. I'd prefer to be allies (My Great-Grandfather and Granduncle would turn over in their graves if they saw me in a Heer uniform :P), but I don't mind going for Italy or even Japan. I'd prefer to avoid Germany due to the reason above (I'm not trying to offend any Germans reading this, if I do manage to pull that off I sincerely apologize), but I'm willing to do some Fallshrimjager reenacting.

Thanks!

General Discussion / What region are you from?
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:54:34 am »
It's a question that's been boggling my mind for a while. I wanted to see where the largest demographic of NW players are.

LEGEND:

NA: North America
EU: Europe
AU: Australia
AS: Asia
OS: Oceana
ME(AF): Middle East (Including North Africa)
SA: South America
ID: India/Southern Asia

Thanks for voting! Feel free to post any pro regional crap in the topic.

General Discussion / [Suggestion]Musket Misfires
« on: October 01, 2013, 03:14:20 am »
This idea has been suggested too many times to count, so I figure we may as well put it to a poll. I feel it best visualized as Galadion put it forward:

Misfires should be added IMO, but they shouldn't be utterly disrupting. Instead, you present your musket, pull the trigger and it just fizzles or clacks or some sort of failure. After this you would simply have to click the reload button again and your character will cock the hammer back again or replace the firing cap. It'd disrupt your firing, but wouldn't make your entire reload pointless. I'd thoroughly enjoy levelling my musket at some angry confederate charging straight at me down a corridor, only to have my musket fizzle and leave me to fight him in melee.

Post your reasons why or why not below!!

Modifications / [Request] Troop text fix
« on: August 22, 2013, 11:21:50 pm »
Hello, my regiment just fixed our 44th skin but we were unable to get the Troop text updated.

For anyone who knows the old skin pack, we just want to old troop text updated to new NW standard.

The 33rd is renamed to 44th East Essex (Centre Company)

2nd Coldstream is renamed to the 44th East Essex (Grenadier Company)

51st is renamed to the 44th East Essex (Light Company)

Anyone who can do this would be much appreciated by the entire regiment, thank you in advance if you do wish to help us out.

General Discussion / [Suggestion]Uniform Degrading
« on: August 03, 2013, 10:49:16 pm »
As we all know, Battle Cry of Freedom is a game about the American Civil War (At least I hope you know that).

In the ACW, like any other war, when people fight things tend to get... messy. People get shot, uniforms get ripped, mud gets over your brand new shiny brogans just before round-shot takes the rest of your leg off. To put it in a quick way of saying it, War is Hell, and bad shit happens in Hell.

I'm proposing the idea of adding these effects to uniforms in BCoF (Not dismemberment, that's extremely over demanding for an indie game such as this).

When you get shot, blood splatters onto your uniform (Like in NW), but also you see a bullet hole where it came in. If you get slashed with a sword a rip appears along with some minor bleeding. When you walk through a river, your trousers and sack coat get soaked, along with your brogans. In rainy maps, while you slosh through mud and dirt it starts to appear on your uniform itself. Also, as battles go on you start seeing minor fraying in your uniform, some cotton puffs sticking out, strings going askew, actual rips in your uniform.

Also it'd feel pretty cool to shoot someone's kepi off, just sayin'.

Some examples of degrating costumes or dynaimic effects in games (Be advised, some vids/pics will be graphic in nature).

Historical Discussion / Wars of Liberation
« on: July 17, 2013, 07:19:21 pm »
Once in a while, a nation finds it upon itself to retake lost or historically culturally similar territory. Sometimes these wars are for the liberation of people, or the liberation or resources.

So my fellow FSE forumites, I ask you this. What are your personal favorite wars of Liberation. Or if you wish you could makes posts going against some wars (Some wars weren't as "Liberating" as others). When these wars happen, often times the soldiers fighting the war do show a higher level of devotion.

In so which, I will start with my personal favorite.

Now, historically speaking France and Germany have never been the best of friends. Even back in Roman times French Gauls fought as Auxillia against the Germanic tribes as Rome made it's final attempt to broaden it's borders. Wars continued into the Medieval era and the 1700s, where the two peoples fought in the War of Spanish Succession as the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire, along with smaller states such as Prussia and Bavaria.

Then moving into the Napoleonic Wars, smaller German states in France's sphere of influence allied with her against their larger counterparts, Prussia and the Austrian Empire. But this wouldn't last, and the confederation splintered and once again all German states fought against France.

Even into the 20th century Germany and France still grappled with each other's empires. In World War I Germans took Belgium, and fought against France and her allies again. In World War II, once again united under the banner of the NSDP, Germany took France and regained land lost in World War I, namely Poland.

But let's rewind a bit, to the war in which Germany first officially became an empire. Where Germans both Northern and Southern came together in arms to liberate a small area of land that had been long contested. A war, which both ended one empire and gave birth to a new one.

I am speaking about the Franco-Prussian War. Where a multitude of nations were brought together into one. Where the Bonaparte bloodline was permanently shattered in France. Where the German Empire that fought and fell in World War I was born. This battle for the Rhineland brought mass fervor for both sides. Napoleon III, hoping to walk in the footsteps of his grandfather wanted to crush the German attackers. But, that obviously did not happen. Instead he was captured, forced to abdicate the throne and then lived the rest of his life in England, where later on his descendant would die in the name of the English crown his forefathers fought so hard to defeat.

Ok I've walloftexted myself out. So, what do you guys think? What Liberation wars have you followed?

(Note: I'm not saying French and German people dislike each other on principle, just referencing history)

Hey guys, I know that on the battlefield there are moments that you want to watch over and over again. We wanted that, so our regimental chop-buster Sandarian recorded a bunch of our LBs a long while back. They're oldish, but it's NaS at it's purest. Here's the vids:

Hope y'all like it!

Historical Reenactment / Need help in my CW Equipment search
« on: April 23, 2013, 02:39:35 am »
Hey guys, as some of you know I'm planning on joining a regiment n my area, but I need to get the neccisary supplies first. I've got the cash on hand that I need to buy most of the supplies, but I'm still minus a lot of the importaint stuff.

First off, I can't find any good brogan sulters. I dunno why it's so hard to find some bloody boots. Second, I can't find anywhere to get cartridges. I can roll 'em myself but after the last... incident I had with black powder I'd rather just by them premade. Thirdly would be a musket, specifically a 1853 3 Band Lee Enfield. I have a place where I can get it now, but it doesn't come with a bayonet (Last thing I want is an ill fitting bayonet).

Leatherworks I've got down, as with the uniform and pretty much all of my clothing (Minus the brogans). I know it's a big list, but I figured knowing that there's a lot of vetted CW reenactors here on FSE I could get a hand finding order points.

Thanks!
