Post by: Desert Thunda on January 31, 2013, 12:55:44 pm
What this forum is really missing is some 40k thread, here we shall discuss everything 40k-ish! From Codex's to famous warriors!

First of all. Quote of le month

"Statistically, you will almost certainly die when assaulting a well-maintained fortress with a competent commander. You must strive to make your death useful." ~Training Manual, Penal Legion, Suicide Bomb Squads

The Death Korps of Krieg. I am sure many of you love these true Warriors

(https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwh40k.lexicanum.com%2Fmediawiki%2Fimages%2F7%2F7b%2FKrieg_Guardsman.jpg&hash=7a36d02c32d7935818271c4061827b307faad3ce)

(Krieg means "War" In German)

Recruitment & Training

By order of the High Lords of Terra Krieg's sole purpose is to produce new regiments for the meat grinder, and its tithes are the maximum possible for the planet's population, supplying over fifty million men per year. This includes the use of unusual methods such as "Vitae Womb" birthing techniques, a practice seen as dangerous and abhorrent by the Adeptus Mechanicus' Magos Biologis but tolerated by the Departmento Munitorium, while others such as a eugenics program to weed out mutants is simply a continuation of policy from the civil war years.
Recruitment starts almost from birth, and the ability to withstand the hardships of living on an atomic-blasted world is enhanced further with brutal training designed to quickly weed out the weak and unworthy. Mental conditioning is a key part of a Krieg recruit's training, their minds purposefully broken and remade stronger, and absolute faith in the Emperor is installed at an early age, amplifying preexisting cultural norms regarding honour and self-sacrifice to create what the Ecclesiarchy calls a "cult of sacrifice." It also emphasis their role as an element in the greater picture, a pebble in the avalanche which will crush the enemies of the Emperor; as an individual they do not matter, which is why medals and other awards are unheard-of in Krieg regiments, especially since bravery and heroism is to be expected. Rates of injury and fatality during training are high, and as a final test all recruits are forced to endure the surface of Krieg itself, performing maneuvers and fighting mock battles amidst the nuclear-blasted battlefields that cover their world. Only those who survive this final phase of training become members of the Death Korps.
The resulting Guardsman is a highly disciplined and self-sufficient soldier, proficient in all basic Imperial Guard weaponry types, with exemplary hand-to-hand skills and expertise in the construction of trench works. Accuracy is desirable but ultimately secondary to the importance of the fire discipline and the ability to maintain continuous fire en mass as part of a larger formation. In particular the Krieg Guardsman is well-versed in hazardous environment survival and exhibits high levels of endurance both mentally and physically. He is also given a numerical designation, such as 769355-637566-Keled or 566-648-87991-72-Draeta, so that his death can be more easily tallied. His near-fanatical devotion to becoming a martyr for the Emperor does lead to a few issues off the battlefield, with a tendency towards insularity and a high degree of fatalism which expresses itself in ways non-Krieg persons can find unsettling, such as refusing to take off his rebreather even when not in combat.
As opposed to other worlds with an aristocratic military tradition, Krieg officers are drawn from the rank and file, achieving promotion through skill, seniority, and in many cases simple survival. If selected during basic training potential officers must complete an additional training course, with most of those being selected having already been chosen for Death Rider duty. In the field new officers are promoted from the ranks, typically having served as Watchmasters or within Death Rider squadrons. Officers right up to the regimental level typically fight on the front lines and equip themselves as such, an expression of the Krieg mentality that all Guardsmen must fight and die for the Emperor. Also in keeping with this mentality, these officers regard their men in the same way other commanders regard ammunition, something which has caused problems in cases where non-Krieg units are placed under the command of Krieg officers.

Huge fan of the Death Korp of Krieg.
However, I still prefer the standard Cadian Infantry to any Death Korp.

Huge Dawn of War Plat+Soulstorm player, Imperial Guard being my favorite there. (No way to guess that, or anything ;))
Speaking of, I really wish they had Death Korp of Krieg in that! Might give the Imperial Guard some early viability in melee.

But this thread is about the universe as a whole, correct? If so, for Chaos, perhaps at Khorne and Slaanesh aswell?

I think in the 10 seconds you took reading the op you didn't really understand the purpose of this thread, yes Warhammer 40k had video game adaptions, but it is more then that discussions could range from modelling/painting, lore/40kuniverse, getting into the hobby and peoples experiences with 40k etc. Just because StarTrek online exists do you think startrek in it entirety belongs on that board, No.

Yes, It is about the universe, I was just posting my favorite regiments, And yes the Death Korps have always been missed out in Warhammer 40k games, just in Retribution they added it, yet they still seemed weak despite their intense training.

For the greater good!

I was going to add Tau, but the poll limits to 5 factions ;_;, yet the Tau are indeed epic.

I had an army of Squats when I first started painting/playing 40k tabletop. When they were discontinued, I switched to Tyranids.

Starship Troopers was published in 1959. If anything, the description of the troopers in the book influenced the design and concept of Space Marines. For the movie however... I can see the Imperial Guard reference: thousands of nameless soldiers lightly armed and armored charging into certain death.

Cool, danke! ;D

While I've been tempted at times to get some of the miniatures, I was put off by the cost and the fact that I don't know anyone to play with (that, and I have a crap ton of Napoleonics I need to paint first... ::)). However, I love everything sci-fi, so I knew I had to at least give the lore a shot. :D

Me & EpicRules did some hilarious editing of famous Monty Python lines.

Brace yourself for poorly prepared material, and cheesy jokes!
Yeah, on second thought let's not go to the Kaurava system, tis a silly place.

Your father was a heretic, and your mother smelt of Eldarfairies.

I fire my lasgun in your general direction

We're Guards of the Imperium, we drill whene'er we're able. We kill Hive Fleets and Space Marines with discipline impec-cable, we dine well here in Krieg....

Been reading lore for the last two hours. 13th Black Crusade, information regarding all manifestations of chaos, and Chaos Engines, aswell as various gifts given to devout followers of the given Chaos God. That and Daemon weapons. Horus' Claw sounds powerful. Fall of the Eldar interests me though - That became the center of Chaos. Was that just a physical manifestation of the warp, or did the other Chaos Gods just not exist in any realm prior to the Fall of the Eldar?

Anyone have anywhere better to read up on each Chaos God's birth rather than the Lexicanum? After reading about Slaanesh's birth I'm rather interested to see how the others were birthed.

Damn Eldar and they're personal problems. Making a huge explosion killing trillions of themselves. :(

EDIT: I feel as if I worded that terribly. Let me give a TL;DR explaination.

Anyone have a website depicting the origins of the Chaos gods?

And about the origins, I am not good at that so you could always try 40kwiki instead of Lexicanum.

Been there, done that. Nothing on the origins.
Nurgle seems to have something to do with The War in Heaven of the Eldar, judging by having Isha in captivity.

Baneblades have so many operators, that would just be silly. :(
I'd prefer to be a gunner in a Kronus Pattern Chimera, anyway.

Actually those are Armageddon Steel Legion, they excel in Ork fighting, you could say they are better in melee like the Krieg though...And some of their armor is a bit familiar. :P

Now something I found interesting about the Spacemarine Apothecaries.

(https://www.fsegames.eu/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc03.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Ff%2F2011%2F336%2Fb%2F1%2Flet_their_deeds_be_made_known_by_blazbaros-d4hx1hw.png&hash=f0bf9ca7a054e187515aa670ec2b7ae647751350)

Apothecary Fabio Cambrian is carrying a heroic guardsman who sacrificed his life for Forge World Hephaestus, interring him into a memorial tomb or hall of glory. Cambrian did not know the guardsman name, rank or anything else about him, but he fought along side him, vigorously for the Emperor and against the onslaught of the Necrons. For that, at least, Cambrian believes he should be remembered.

The Death Korp and the 89th Asgardian rangers are the only respectable guardsmen

But be sure to read the installation guide for UA before installing, it's more complicated than it looks.

All we need:

Base Building
Infinite Pop cap
No extremely under powered guardsmen who take 5 damage from bolter and die.
Make Baneblade more powerful, in DoW II they were just a disgrace.
Give us TAU!
Give us Necrons!
Realistic Guard squads, 30 minimum per squad if you want to keep the underpowered guard.
No more of that cover crap.
Remove that Company of Heroes crap.
More varaints of each race/ faction. I do not want all regiments to be based off Cadian war gear. I want Tallarn, Krieg, Vostroyan, Morodian, etc.
Customize every unit.

Yes but, the point is Warhammer battles included Thousands if not millions of troops, battling it out with constant reinforcements.
DoW I had the ability to provide us that.
DoW II? Ya I really think an army of 50 guardsmen is sufficient to take out a chaos warband  ::)

Agreed.
Infinite Pop cap
No. Within reason.
No extremely under powered guardsmen who take 5 damage from bolter and die.
They're OP as they are. Noob Tubes kick too much ass.
Make Baneblade more powerful, in DoW II they were just a disgrace.
Agreed.

Agreed
Realistic Guard squads, 30 minimum per squad if you want to keep the underpowered guard.
You're kidding, I hope. The Guard is rediculous.
No more of that cover crap.
Agreed. Or, if they do implement cover, make it like a garrisonable building so the AI isn't retarded and spread out everywhere.
Remove that Company of Heroes crap.
Agreed. DoW2 was a mod for CoH. Pretty much, anyway.
More varaints of each race/ faction. I do not want all regiments to be based off Cadian war gear. I want Tallarn, Krieg, Vostroyan, Morodian, etc.
I guess. This would be mainly for the Imperium, as I can't see Tyranids with base differences from each other as far as aesthetics.
Customize every unit.
I disagree with this, quite a bit. Within reason, MAYBE. But you could have multiple legionnaires from various Chaos Warbands, I dunno...

Basically summed up the Firestorm over Kronos mod for Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, minus the cover bit and the pop-cap limit (Although they have made a mode for multiplayer as an option when you make the game room called "warfare" or something, which basically doubles, if not triples, all pop caps.)
