Was looking at EdwardC's signatures, and noticed that in this one, some soldiers are artillerymen. My question is, "Why?" Did they lose their cannons? Pride?
As far as I am aware this is because they are a heavy artillery regiments who were called up from forts which were in the rear. so many would have arty uniforms however were acting as line there is a interesting documentary on it actual which discusses that they were very good
At drill but many believed they were not solders and were just a parade ground unit which were good at looking fancy. I may be wrong but that's what it looks like to me.
