Title: "Did the Kingdom of Scotland beat the Kingdom of England?" Debate !

"Did the Kingdom of Scotland beat the Kingdom of England?"

So I'm having a debate with a stubborn Scotsmen, who declares James VI of Scotland becoming the king of England through succession laws means that Scotland beat England and effectively conquered them through a personal union.

I disagree as the Kingdoms remained independent from each other even when ruled by the same king, and only become one when the English parliament convinced the Scottish parliament to unite in 1707. (After paying of Scottish debts after failed colonization of the Americas)

So rather then continuing this argument, as neither party is willing to admit they're wrong. I bring the argument to the forum!

It is not that I disagree with Wikipedia as a source, but I do mind that your only source is that same Wikipedia.

Having just one souce, is not valid.

ADter 1603, the Stuarts were more concerned with England than with Scotland. That doesn't seem like a Scottish victory in my eyes.

Seems like a daft argument over all.

You might as well say that Wales conquered Scotland seeing as the Stuarts at this time were descended from a relation of Henry VII, or that Hanover conquered Britain when George I came over.

Yes thats true, or Germanic, but modern English maybe looks 5% like Old English if it aint be less.
I would be interested if a moderned version of Old English was there. That was probably looking like German and Dutch and Scandinavian, but than in its own way.

Well you could say they did, in a sense. After all, after the fall of House Tudor, the House Stuart, Royal House of Scotland ascended to the throne of England or so.
