It's nice to see the rapid progress being made. The duel wield for the colours is a great edition.

I've always massively doubted this game ever since it was announced - but I must say this looks excellent.

thanks for the update. My brother went to jail in 2013 for 10 years for armed robbery. Hoping to play this with him when he's out since NW was his favorite game!

Looking not only solid, but pretty great! I'm especially happy about the care you take for administration, that's really really appreciated. It's one of the most important factors for public servers and events, yet it tends to get ignored quite often. Seriously, that's just great!

In order to get nitpicking, are explosive kegs unusable while under water? I remember that boats used to get blown up from beneath on Tropical Paradise, it's hilarious and fun, but might be annoying + abused in other contexts. Besides that, is there a misfire chance when it's raining? After all, that would be realistic, but I'm not entirely sure whether it would be that much fun to have it go "pooof" instead of "boooooom" during a siege.

Will flagbearers suffer skill- and speednerfs when fighting while carrying a flag? I'm sure they will, but to what extent? After all, these things are heavy and clumsy af as you, being reenactors, certainly know. Personally, I'm pretty sure I couldn't do anything except wobble about with that sword while carrying a flag as large as this one-handed. In my experience, I usually am all happy when keeping it up against the winds using both my arms :-[ ;D

The UI is spot on, simple yet informative, just like it should be!

Spoiler
Why does this game look better than Bannerlord? I'm being serious here, what's FSE doing right that Taleworlds is doing wrong?

*FSE apparently has better understanding of context, natural surroundings, history, human movement and anatomy and maybe posseses more of what one might call "heartblood". But this whole blog puts TW to shame on levels that I would not have considered possible for a studio as small as this.

I really like what I see here- the one criticism I have is of the first tune, "Three Camps". To me the very rapid drum beat in the background is uncomfortable to listen to. However, I like many of the other tunes and none of the rest displease me.

The knapsacks look as top notch as the other models I've seen in these blogs, and I like the attention to detail and information about them, despite not being well informed about the equipment of this period myself. It looks like yet more pleasing variety in equipment that is rooted in reality, which is surely good for everyone.

The sapper building looks really neat; as you say the UI isn't polished but it is functional and the process of selecting and placing things seems more smooth and intuitive than in NW. The way colour bearers shoulder the flag and can still fight with a sword looks excellent, I think you guys are doing a great job on the graphics of this game.

Why does this game look better than Bannerlord? I'm being serious here, what's FSE doing right that Taleworlds is doing wrong?

Couldn't agree more. The overall quality but in particular the way things look right and natural, in terms of outfits particularly, puts Bannerlord to shame (I say this as a long term fan of Taleworlds). Taking that screenshot of the colour bearers as an example, everything about the uniforms (textures, creases and general aesthetic appeal) and the way the men hold things (general posture and positioning of the fingers) looks better than Bannerlord. Then there is the realistic log near the fire, the nice looking wagon in the background, the lovely sky...in the other screenshots, such as the knapsacks, you've shown again how to make leather look like leather. To me, that's not something Bannerlord has done very well.

To be honest, this won't be necessary, since you're already at a disadvantage as the huge color behind your back obstructs like half of your view, especially when the wind is strong.

serious question and this isnt criticism
how you going to promote this
you going on steam?
its just i doubt taleworlds will announce this stand alone game
will you just announce it on the napoleonic wars steam or is it going on steam
i want this game to succeed but if its just released and nobody but the people on this forum know, it wont get more than 100 players as not many peeps visit these forums anymore

Obviously Taleworlds has nothing to do with this, so they won't promote it. Once we get the game into a more finished state that we feel contend with, we will start a proper marketing campaign. Right now we are basicially just updating our existing community.
The game will be available on Steam.

Another good update, keep up the good work! The sapper constructions look great! Will sappers be able to jab with that shovel? Or will a "down attack" be disabled in favour of just swings attacks?

You can swing all 4 directions with the shovel, but only the down swing will actually dig.

On the matter of the music, whom owns the copyright on that music?

I ask because if I cast an event, I dont want Content ID claims on Youtube because of musicians.

Thanks

olaf can answer the copyright stuff but YT is utter shit when it comes to copyright stuff.  edit to clarify, this and below is assuming you are playing the game, and have the music playing.  not just taking the music separately by itself.

until they do something about how people claim items in videos, every tom, dick, and bot will claim your stuff even though they have no right to.  they wont be punished for it.  It is just headache to deal with.  I always laughed how many bots claimed songs in my NW videos.   best advice is to not play any of the  music while recording.   Streaming to something like twitch(maybe others, idk) should be fine i think.(you can take the stream and export it to YT)  I dont think they are that bad with copyright claims on music.  if they are, just turn it off there as well.  Sadly this is something you shouldn't need to and people will miss out on the well done in game music, but that is the world we live in right now.  you can spend a lot of time fighting for it, because you are in the right, but at the end of the day, was it worth the effort?  doing that for every song, on every video is just taxing.

i guess we will find out before release on how nasty the bots are on bcof music.

i am not sure how much we can help out with those copyright claims.

So if the spec cam focuses on musicians playing, if I get a content ID claim, I can talk to you guys? Is it something you plan to put into YT content ID system, if so, can you add Youtubers into a whitelist to prevent auto claims?

Cheers for taking the time to respond

I love the attention to details, especially on the British import knapsack - seen original photos of confederates wearing these and once they've removed the wooden box they tend to bulge out between the leather corners. Look forward to seeing more British kit being worked into the confederate models. One really eye catching one to do would be the pattern 42 cartridge pouch which they used during the Crimean war - its a huge monster of a cartridge box but in that way very distinct!

Are you entirely sure? They were in fact importing 1859/1860 pattern boxes, which are thick, but not that huge. I think you may be thinking about them but confusing dates with pattern 1842 US boxes. And yeah, P1860s are already done.

I'm sure the later pattern were smaller and more frequently imported so yeah your probably already on a better track! No the ones I was referring to are definitely British pattern, used them for the minie rifle through 54-55 in the Crimea and I've got one for my Crimean impression. Anyway I'm just stitch counting at this point; the details you've already gone to looks brilliant and no need to add in kit that would have been the exception and not the rule.

Well in this case I'm rather genuinely interested in this pattern. I'm no specialist in most of things between 1815 and 1861, but I've got a copy of this Pierre Turner's book on the british equipment, and for la nd troops it seems to be quite inclusive normally, yet for infantry cartridge boxes there is a huge gap between 1805 pattern and 1856 and later 1859 patterns. I sort of thought it to be reasonable since that's exactly what was happening with the canteen or mess tin for instance, but it's possible it misses another pattern out indeed.

The Pierre Turner is a must have for leatherwork definitely, but didn't know it missed this out - will try dig out a picture when I get home or indeed just take one of mine for you if interested. I believe it came in when the percussion muskets/Brunswick rifles did for the Brits in '42.

The community has at least been actively involved in the development process now in the form of closed alpha testing, which some of the community members get to participate in. I believe there also was a video of a linebattle from that test too? So you're still getting info - albeit, maybe not in the form of devblogs. However, it's probably better for the game development if FSE is allowed to focus on developing it rather than working on PR.

You can always get a quick update from the devs by hopping on the Discord and asking them some questions about the game. You'll most likely get a response.
