History of the 2e


The 2e Régiment de Grenadiers de la Garde is the oldest grenadier regiment of the french community.
Its history began is June 2011, during the IVe Corps's golden age. One training day at the 45e Régiment d'infanterie de Ligne, comes and speaks the Maréchal Bastien; he announces that a regiment will be created. The Maréchal took the decision to open a second line infantry regiment and thus was the 2e Régiment de Grenadiers de la Garde created. The Maréchal put the new regiment under Lieutenant Verdieb's command, freshly arrived in the 45e, transferred from 84e, assisted by the Sous Lieutenant Ferdiand.
During the 3 months following its creation, new recruits arriving, the 2e Régiment de Grenadiers de la Garde under the command of its Capitaine specialized in melee combat. The Capitaine Verdieb training himself a large part of the vélites. The regiment was going well with an iron discipline and results were there, the 2e Grenadiers de la Garde was an elite regiment, and soon feared by many.
Life in the 2e was peaceful and simple; you'd charge when 45e was looking at the enemy, or retreat to help a fellow 5e in troubles; time was going by, and slowly the regiment's importance and melee skill were growing.

In September of 2011, the Conseil des Grenadiers (aka officers and NCO) was composed of Capitaine Verdieb, Sous-Lieutenant Ferdinant, Adjudant Rek ,Sergent Knight, Caporal Stephane and Caporal Aussenac.
While the IVe Corps was at its best, the Maréchal Bastien decided to take a break from the game. His absence left many officers unhappy, and thus Capitaine Verdieb, Capitaine Suchet of the 45e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne and Sous-Lieutenant O'Malley of the 5e Régiment de Voltigeurs de la Garde left the IVe Corps to create the 14 Régiment d'Infaterie de Ligne (still existing today albeit less active) in October 2011.
The 2e Régiment de Grenadiers de la Garde lacking officers and NCO was then disbanded and its members joined the 45e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne.

Does the story end here ?

Of course not.

March of 2012, the Sous-Lieutenant Stéphane takes the initiative to re-open the 2e Régiment de Grenadiers de la Garde, leaving Aussenac in command of the 45e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne. The month following, Stéphane's computer dies tragically, and Bessières is promoted Sous-Lieutenant to take the regiment's head, helped along by Sergent Major Caran, Sergent Skikkers and Sergent Pokertour.
In June 2012 Bessières leaves the regiment. Stéphane makes his comeback and takes the lead, helped by Caran. During the summer vacations, it is Sergent-Chef Friction who leads the regiment. Pokertour leaves during these holidays, followed shortly by Friction. In November Caran leaves as well.
To supply to all these departures, new NCOs are promoted, and thus during October the Conseil des Grenadiers renews : with two new Sergents Rapp and Schwarzie and three new Caporaux Robert, Kuno and Lessno. Friction makes his comeback shortly after as Sergent-Major.
The next generation is ready.

With these new leaders, the 2e the discipline wears off slightly and melee training is the main focus to regain level. The trainings are more intense, and excellent fighters rise (Robert, Drasfen, Toxic, MrOskill, Jessaor for a time, Lothringer, Friction). The latest is promoted Sous-Lieutenant by the Corps' Etat Major, and Rapp takes his place as Sergent-Major.
Winter holidays are a disaster for the 2e; in December Schwarzie leaves his Sergent post and in January both Caporaux, Robert and Chalk leave as well. To replace them 2 new Grognards are designated : KronOos and Drasfen.
And thus the Conseil des Grenadiers renews itself once again, composed this time of Capitaine Stéphane, Sergent-Major Rapp, Aides de Camps Lessno, Drasfen and KronOos, Caporal Jak, and Grognards Reiwam, Jod and So. These leaders reflect the 2e Grenadiers at this time; it was a transition. Indeed if Drasfen, KronOos and Reiwam succeeded during their test period, Jod et So take their leave, Jak goes founding another regiment and Lessno doesn't fill his test period.
Comes the summer holidays of 2013. The Adjudant-Chef Diablo of the 45e Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne is transferred to the 2e. He comes to help the 2e and train them. In September the situation is more stable, but this time troubles come from the Conseil des Grenadiers; Reiwam doing all the administrative work loses all motivation; a small group of 2e composed of Skikkers, Achille, Jessaor, Toxic, Luxa and Nemesis is formed to help him. Decision is taken to kick out Sergent-Major Rapp who is inactive. He leaves after a meeting of the Conseil which the small group attended to.   
October seems brighter for the 2e; Stéphane is promoted Lieutenant-Colonel and sees in Reiwam the second in command he needs, who is promoted Sergent-Major.
During November, Jessaor and Achilles are promoted Grognards. Stéphane decides to take a break in late November. Diablo and Reiwam transfer to the 7e Hussards.
In early 2014, the 2e is leaded by Sergent KronOos, alongside with Achilles and Jessaor. Nemesis is promoted Caporal aswell in April. In May, Caporal Jessaor is kick out of the Corps for suspicious plotting, and Achilles leaves alongside him. Many veterans decide to take their leave with the 2 Caporaux, and the 2e lives troubled days. Stéphane still partially in a break, 2e is lead by only Sergent-Major KronOos until his depart in July. During summer holidays, a small group composed of Santiago, Larouille, Poney and others old members make their best to keep the regiment from falling apart. Stéphane comes back in late August, and shortly after are promoted Caporaux Larouille, Poney and Santiago.

Today the regiment under the impulse of its member wants to regain its level in melee fighting, a small line of elites, active men forming together a friendly regiment.

The Grenadiers de la Garde in History

Legendary unit, veterans of the Old Guard are considered the bravest soldiers in french military history. The Grenadiers à pied de la Garde were officially created by the ordinance of the Consuls of the 7 frimaire an VIII (november 28, 1799) which organized the guard ofthe Consuls, by putting together the Corps législatif's guard and the Directoire's guard. Their primary mission was to protect the Empereur, but quickly the Garde became a fighting unit. Reserve of the army, its most precious element. Being a model for the army, it must be irreproachable. Passively, it frames other troops, and reinforce the cohesion within all units with only its presence and behaviour. It holds the Grande Armée together. The Garde impériale is a reserve unit in battles : they engage only in decisive moments, or even better, they don't fight. They are used as a last resort to unlock difficult situations or to finish off enemies. And thus, lots of victory reports end with these words « La Garde n’a pas donné » (The Garde didn't have to fight). If the Garde was to fight, it meant the situation was already disastrous. The Grenadiers de la Garde were renown for their charges and bayonet fighting as illustrated by this famous quote from the Général Dorsenne as the Garde was charging in Eylau as a first time in the History of the Premier Empire; "Cease fire and arm to the side, a grenadier fights only with his bayonet !" But the Grenadiers de la Garde are mainly famous for their action during the Waterloo battle. After 7:00pm, the Empereur agrees to have the Garde fightinh on the Mont Saint-Jean. Five battalions of the Moyenne Garde assault Wellington's positions. From the west side, three chasseurs battalions are under british artillery fire. Hiding in the fields, General Maitland's Guard empty their muskets, and 300 men of the 3e chasseurs collapse. The 4e chasseurs comes to rescue them. Melee fighting is engaged. On the east, the two grenadiers battalions manage to pierce General Colin Kalkett's brigade. However, the belgian-dutch division of the général Chassé, which the Duke had bring back from Braine-l'Alleud launches a counter attack. At ten against one, the grenadiers are held back. Wellington then commands a counter attack to all his men. Overwhelmed, the Garde steps back. Fear takes to the gut of the french Army, except for the 4 Garde battalions in a square formation in the backline, 500m further. They try their best to save their fellow soldiers and to stop Wellington's counter attack. They can only slowly fall back, slowing down the enemy's progression. After long and tough fights, the British press them to surrender. It is then that Cambronne would have let out his "Merde".
