I camp more when arty is around. I hide behind the hills. I dont think arty and skirms would fix the problems that I dont mind to much, just have to force the enemy out.
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

Regiment Name: 1. Lutzows Freikorps Field Battery 1. Battalion Battery A
Regiment Leader: Millander
Leader's Steam: [1.FKI] Millander
Estimated Attendance 5
Desired Role: Artillery
Accepted for artillery.

Well every map is going to have hills.  There is nothing you can really do about that.  But you can force people on and off hills with skirms and arty.  It keep people from just camping on the largest hill in the corner of the map and not budging the whole battle.  This battle to me felt like who had the better camping position than it was about out smarting and out maneuvering the enemy.

I am posting this because its the way I think line battles should play like.    And I was told you wanted criticism so I thought I would post and give you my thoughts.
Artillery may pick a guy or two off but I find that it starts camping, you can't move around the map without being picked at by artillery. Skirmishers typically play as a support role, they rarely focus on long range shooting. I honestly have no problem with camping, it's a strategic advantage. As the OP states specialty roles are open, nobody has signed up for them.

Well if you are camping a hill and ever time you go up to shoot a cannon ball takes out a few guys or a well placed howi shell lands on the back side of the hill or skirms pick a few guys off.  Those are things that can keep the enemy pinned down while line inf moves in.  You cant really do that to well with line inf without them taking heavy casualties.

I think I got my point across and I don't want to start a major debate.  I am going to leave it at that.  I am sure there will be people agree and disagree with me on this.  It was a GG today.  Best of luck to your LB Mene and to those who attend it.

I have almost never seen this example of combined arms utilized in events. I'm just going of of my experiences in arty included events. From what I've seen at today's event I did not see all that much camping. It seemed most fighting was aggressive minus some of the last map
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

I thought the linebattle went well.

When I lead, the threat of artillery always keeps me behind hills, waiting for friendly regiments to help me move on a position, etc. Skirmishers, in my opinion, are the real "line-mover". If you see a skirmisher unit move up on your left and you're camping atop a hill, then men start dropping, I see that as motivation to get off that f*cking hill, lol. A combined effot of artillery and skirms are an effective way to move lines around if used properly. But given warband's map generation system and a lack of regimental cooperation, it rarely works.

I thought the cavalry was fun and the one round I did lead the 93e we were able to get a nice charge off on the back of a moving line--then the PLG came and cleaned us up xD--and it was fun. It was a disruption of enemy formations and it gave time for friendly infantry to better position themselves to engage.

I personally loved the cavalry and I hope we're able to get it each week because from what I have seen, a single, effective cavalry charge can do what skirmishers and cannon can do together. Of course, it always depends on the situation. The desert map for example; Cavalry was almost rendered useless because the cavalry units attacked prematurely on both sides, getting themselves killed by the grouped up infantry units, and then it turned into "who can shoot better until someone decides to stop waiting". That map was small so it lacked the ability for cavalry maneuvering.

But it was overall a fun battle and a good game.
