Songs and their historical context
« on: November 15, 2013, 11:28:50 pm »
Modern songs today still have themes that relate to infamous historical events. Post a song you know that does it and then infer what you think the song is describing

Viva la Vida by Coldplay
I don't know what the fuck this music video is doing and his hand motion
*As I typed the explanation, I watched the video. I'm so sorry for this guy's motion and buggy eyes.

This song is describing the French Revolution. The lead singer obviously is depicting Louis
Ex. "People couldn't believe what I'd become"
"For some reason I can't explain it, I know St. Peter will call my name"
"When I ruled the world"
"My missionaries in a foreign field"
"And for all it's worth
But that was when I ruled the world"

I know this is easier to identify than most songs but its a good starter. Happy hunting boys
Fuck off, Nazi scum

Ghost Division by Sabaton, the famous 7th Panzer-Division commanded by then Generalmajor Erwin Rommel. One of my friends' father's uncle served in it. The historical context is quite obvious.

This thread cant be well without Sabaton ofcourse, they made a lot of nice songs about historical events. This one is about 101st Airborne Div. at Bastogne.
