Looking good although as a Roundhead and of Essex's army he would be wearing an orange sash around his waist rather than a red one unless of course it is New Model in which case it would be a blue sash.
On another note we are now forming regiments for the mod, which is due for release around Christmas, more details here:

The Artillery nerf needed to happen!
In all seriousness though you are right, literally every single source says the same thing, artillery had a minimal effect on the outcome of a battle. I think there was one exception (might have been one of Hopton's battles) but that is it. Hopefully we will have sakers, mortars and robinet's. I might do a post on the artillery over on the Steam page  (I have been doing a serious of posts on the historical aspects of the war which are listed here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/pikeshotte/discussions/0/352792037319366605/)
Thanks for the links although our new animator is working closely with our Community Manager who is also an ECW re-enactor so he should know the correct drill etc.

That looks good, taken straight from the drill of the era. I assume our Community Manager would know a thing or two about drill being a re-enactor.

Where there any sort of Polish groups or units the served germany in ww2? Also any names of said people?
As far as I am aware the Germans did conscript some Poles into their army but not into separate Polish units since they had absorbed much of Poland into the Reich and the rest was considered occupied territory. The last thing they wanted were units with a distinct Polish identity since they were trying to 'Germanize' much of Poland.

Historical Discussion / Re: Medals I found in my Grandparent's attic
« on: September 11, 2016, 12:21:29 pm »
Wow, there are quite a few there! I initially thought the one on the far left looks like the Military Cross but I am not so sure. Of the three grouped together in the bottom centre right I can tell that the right one is most likely the 1914-15 star and the ones next to them look like WW2 medals (I think I can see George VI cipher). There appear to be two WW1 Allied victory medals and at least one WW1 British victory medal. Not sure about the rest, I have a book on medals at home somewhere.
EDIT: Ah just read the link. Makes sense now. Yeah the medals should have their service number on them so they should not be too hard to track down. The medal card index for WW1 might be useful.

Off Topic / Re: Need Your Help
« on: September 09, 2016, 06:19:11 pm »
Hello everyone. Really don't know if this is the correct strata I should be posting under or not, but I am in need of history buffs, especially ones on Napoleon. I am currently doing my Senior Thesis on Napoleon's Invasion of Russia and I was wondering and if anyone could give their insights, ideas of books or websites I should be looking at to help. Thanks so much!
This probably belongs on the Historical thread but I will try my best. I did my dissertation on Wellington in the Peninsula and Waterloo so I am more genned up on that era but I know a fair bit about the invasion of Russia.
For websites one of the best is this one:
http://www.napolun.com/mirror/napoleonistyka.atspace.com/
It is very detailed and has loads of links.
Book wise, Lefebvre did a rather large biography of Napoleon which may have some stuff in it. Looking through my library, there are some general ones such as 'European Armies and the Conduct of War'  by Hew Strachan and 'European Warfare, 1660-1815' by Jeremy Black. There was a new one out on Napoleon recently, my brother bought me a copy but I do not have it to hand at the moment.
Are you concentrating more on Napoleon's involvement in the invasion? The reasons it failed?
EDIT: There is also this well known map showing the strength of his army throughout the campaign.

I don't do re-enactment and I've never been to see one before, but I live close by and I've decided I'll definitely come to watch. I'm assuming you're all referring to the English Heritage event? They're saying there's going to be over a thousand reenactors:

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/battle-15-oct/

So I have a question-which day is the battle going to be reenacted? They sell tickets for Sat 15th and Sun 16th Oct. Or is it going to be done on both days?
[close]
I am guessing both days. I have done Napoleonic stuff in the past and events usually last two days, the Saturday and the Sunday (not counting late Friday's when everything is set up). I have not been to a proper Medieval Re-enactment for years (not counting Country Fairs and things) but again they usually last two days.

Looks good. Prince Rupert's regiment I am assuming? As I have said before, sashes are a very complicated topic. Royalist's generally wore red sashes but I have heard some mention that some who had served on the continent may have worn blue (I think the Swedes wore blue sashes?)

Yup, that will do nicely  :)
Did you see my edit to a post a bit further up with the image of the Earl of Essex?

Damn, I wanted to have the sash on the other side but it looks weird and I cant fix it.
I will give him the hat and possibly King Charles I face.
Its quite sad people come and exit, leaving no comment containing constructive critism or anything else  :-[
Take heart, at least people are interested in it and are checking out the forum. Oh and I might be able to preview a map I have been working on in a few days.

Looks great! I would probably give his helmet some white feathers to show his rank a little more. Either that or change his helmet for a round hat with white feathers:

Oh and a note about the sash. That is the sash of the order of the garter, I believe it is a little more light blue in colour and is worn from the left shoulder to the right hip rather than the other way around. Here is a portrait of the King wearing it. It was his favourite order:

I say that but Sir Edward Walker (he was pretty much the Kings's secretary, he is the guy sitting down writing) is wearing what looks like the sash of the order the other way around unless that is another heraldic order.
EDIT: If you are thinking about doing a Parliamentarian General then here is a picture of the Earl of Essex, it is not in colour sadly:

His sash would be orange/tawny since that was his personal colour, he seems to be wearing a breastplate and I expect the rest would be in buff (except perhaps the trousers, red maybe?)
