Final Farewell

As has been acknowledged by previous posts, today's event marks the end of the 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot's tenure in the NW scene. This decision obviously comes as a difficult one to desire, but in the weeks following the restructuring of the regiment we believe this is the appropriate path to take. An existence of 7 months is definitely not one to be ashamed of, though the lack of regimental tournaments during this period mirrors the noticable decline of the competitive aspect of this module. A gradual decrease in enthusiasm all-round, coupled with a noticeable downward trend in attendance (how much this can be blamed on the advent of the school year one cannot know for certain) has led to this resolution. The possibility of retaining the regiment and becoming more casually-oriented has arisen but was not agreed upon by the leadership, since we believe in the prevailing competitive function of the regiment. Enough about the state of the community, let's move onto some thanks and well-wishes.

First and foremost, thank you Colonel Daniel Carrick (Ambiguous) for your untoppable dedication and passion to the regiment; from the first day until your formal retirement two weeks ago. If spending night after night recruiting on public servers, 7 years after the module was released, isn't a reflection of that relentless commitment then I don't know what is. A special mention to our (ex-)COs: Thanks to Edward Fraser (Rune) for leading the Grenadier Company so well, for proving yourself so capable in both melee and leadership while stepping up to the task of running events. Thanks to James Love (Fwuffy) for always being at the ready and your effort in aspiring to a smooth conduct of the regimental structure. Thanks to Charles MacDonald (Caskie) for your continued commitment, quality leadership and liaison between the Centre and Grenadier companies. Thanks to William Anderson (Snowwi) for your ever-positive outlook, Centre Company direction and your previous excellent work as Serjeant-Major. Thanks to Walter FitzAlan (Lewk) for the unbelievable hard work done both in and out of game, and your unique sense of humour.

Thank you to the vital and quality work that we have witnessed over the past months by the NCO staff; without you this regiment would be nowhere. The amount of work that you all completed behind the scenes, on the forums and in-game is staggering and we appreciate that you were able to make the system function so well. Thanks to Matthew McLean (EpicPizza), Bradley McKay (Vanleeuwen), David Lyon (Louis) and Ryan Davenport (Sphinx) - to name a few. A great thanks obviously goes out to all the members who have been with us at one point or another, in all capacities from Recruit to Lance Corporal. You formed a community that we were proud to be a part of; one that witnessed the advent of many great friendships and memories. It may be difficult to find the right balance of discipline and entertainment, and we definitely did not miss that mark in our case.

Best of luck to all of you in your future endeavours, whether that may be continuing NW, moving onto Bannerlord or leaving this game forever. You were all part of something great and we hope your last memory of this game's final phase was a good one. As always, remember that Vir prudens non contra ventum mingit.

- The leadership of the 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot

17th's New Era

On the 20th October 2019, Col Daniel Carrick retired from all regimental duties and has left both the regiment and game for the foreseeable future. This was rather unexpected for the majority of the regiment with how sudden everything occurred but on behalf of the regiment, we would like to thank you for all the hard work you put in and out of the game since forming especially when you single handedly recruited all of the new recruits into regiment which was amazing to witness. Finally, we like to wish you all the best with your future endeavors and hope you find time to stop by the TeamSpeak and catch up every so often.

Moving forward changes are being seen from top to bottom of the regiment, in Dan's stead Cpt Edward Fraser has taken the mantle of Colonel and command of the regiment. Lt James Love has been promoted to Captain and assumed the role of Grenadier company leader. Due to Lt William Andersons lack of time has decided to step down as leader of the newly formed Centre company and resume as an enlisted private within the Gren company. Now to fill this spot left by William Anderson it was decided that Ensign Charles MacDonald was to take command and take this company forward. Lastly, three of our current Grenadier NCO's have decided to step down each with their own reasoning therefore I'd like to thank Sjt David Lyon, Cpl Ryan Davenport and Cpl Bradley McKay for their time as non commissioned officers. :)

Final portrait of 17th's Founder - Colonel Daniel Carrick

"Love you 3000" - Nock  :-*

We caught up with the 17th's new Colonel to ask him about his feelings concerning the regiment after the most recent events.

Colonel Edward Fraser - "With Daniel resigning we say goodbye to a friend and an excellent leader I hope he finds what he's looking for and makes it big for himself with whatever he pursues next. Now regarding the regiment, we'd like to continue where we left of obviously replacing positions that are now vacant which need filling and potentially changing a few things here and there as we go forward. But as of right now I'm confident with the support of Fwuffy (Cpt. James Love) we can keep this going. To close out id like to say both Centre and Grenadier companies of the regiment are still active and playing with weekly events so if you are interested in joining add myself [17th] Rune or [17th] Fwuffy and we'll help you out or alternatively visit our forum 17th.eu

The Regiment is actively recruiting, enlist for the 17th today.

October 2019

September was an uneventful month in terms of the regiments activity, to be expected our attendance dropped slightly due to the beginning of the new academic year. Our Col Daniel Carrick has moved away to study and unfortunately become less active therefore leaving more of the regimental duties in the capable hands of Cpt Edward Fraser and Lt James Love. Both the Centre and the Grenadier company are still actively playing each still doing their own events throughout the week. Due to the start of a new academic year not only has our regiment been affected but many of others which has been noticed in the most recent events.

Unlike previous months where we had four to five competitive line battles this month just gone we had two, one against the 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot and the other against the newly formed international regiment Nr91. The first match we played ended with a tie both regiments playing to good standards showing us the 17th that we still need to iron out a few details in order for us to beat the higher tiered regiments consistently. The second match was more simple and easy for us, our experience and skill really showed in this match, our melee and shooting was superior by far. As the 17th neared its fifth month since forming Col Daniel Carrick decided to host an internal duel tournament where 28 members participated. In order to reward the winner of the tournament they'd be award the "Black Prince's Cross". After a very fun tournament, two finalists revealed themselves these being Cpt Edward Fraser and Pte Edward Bowman. After a long and intense duel the victor emerged, Cpt Edward Fraser has claimed victory with a score line of 7-5. Congratulations on receiving the distinguished "Black Prince's Cross". As this month comes to an end our sixth month anniversary has arrived, congratulations to everyone who has made these six months what they are and here's to another six!  :)

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - It's been a tough month for me as the leader of the regiment, with the cancellation of NWCL and the lack of proper regiments to face in competitive events. I hope we manage to weather the storm.

Captain Edward Fraser - September was an uneventful month as very little happend as regiments are struggling to keep attendance and cancelling events as the school year begins. Fortunately despite this we've still managed to have a good record in the few events we had this month. Heres hoping for a more productive next month

Lieutenant James Love - September was the start of the school year for many people, and sadly it showed. Luckily attendance for all the events was still somewhat acceptable, and the Grenadier results were generally positive too. With the news of NWCL potentially not happening the outlook for future tournaments and leagues isn't great right now but hopefully something will pop up that we can look forward to.

Lieutenant William Anderson - The month of september was a crucial one for the 17th. Not only was it the centre company's second month of existing, meaning it was even more important to integrate the new guys of centre company to our community. But it was also a crucial month for the regiment itself to establish its standing as one of the top tier regiments in the entire NW community. Despite having lost a disappointing GF to the 15th YR, I am willing to say that all in all the regiment itself did really well in all of its events. May it have been GF's, 1v1's or even the casual events!

Ensign Walter FitzAlan - Reminiscing of September, indelible exultation manifests inwardly of me, conduced by prized experiences and developments, through gobs of events, that exposit how forthcoming our regiment and it's cadre is. This past month, the seventeenth prevailed as the pinnacle of NW regiments. September, I hail thee farewell!

September 2019

August has seen a lot of growth in both size and skill from the regiment. Just a month ago the regiment decided to form a new company to act and facilitate for the more casual focused players of the Napoleonic Wars community. This company has expanded at a significant rate boasting that of 40+ new members in its first month. This was achieved due to the persevering efforts of Col Daniel Carrick who spearheaded the recruitment for the new company. As a structure within the regiment its extremely important to set strong foundations, therefore a leader needed to be appointed. Due to the recognised skills needed for this role our current Sjt-Maj of Grenadier company was selected, therefore receiving the commissioned role of Lieutenant and appointed as the head of Centre Company. Due to the shift of Lt William Anderson to Centre company, there were a few changes and additions to be made within the Grenadier staff. CSjt Donald Witt was promoted to Sjt-Maj for his continued dedication and work for the regiment. Both Corporals David Lyon and Matthew Munro received the rank of Serjeant and finally three new Corporals were appointed these being Bradley McKay, Ryan Davenport and Charles MacDonald. Congratulations to all who were promoted, truly deserved. As of August 2019, the regiment has reached a total of 104 members, a great achievement to celebrate as we near our fifth month anniversary this week.

In terms of results this month it concludes to be our best month yet. Playing ten competitive events this month we achieved the victory of nine, narrowly being defeated in the tenth. This month we have shown tremendous skill in all aspects, our formations, teamwork, leading and individual performance has been significantly increased prior to last month which is truly exciting to see. Conflicts we have seen this month were far from easy, the likes of regiments we faced are that of the 96y Dneprovskiy Pehotniy Polk, 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot and 2e Régiment Fusiliers-Grenadiers all veteran and well-established regiments. The first engagement came with the 96y, a recent opponent we faced the previous month. Due to the past skirmish we knew exactly how to approach this, get close and overpower them with our melee. However, the 96y wasn't going to make it easy, at each turn they positioned themselves perfectly to prevent us from getting close without losing a notable amount of our line. Col Daniel Carrick not deterred lead forth knowingly suffering the countless of losses we could occur getting us just close enough to call for a melee charge. Our melee was exceptionally good this day easily overpowering the 96y. Our next embrace with enemy forces came from the 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot, a regiment we have great respect for. Over the period of the regiments life, the 15th has been one of our greatest challenges for both 1v1's and groupfights. But seeing our improvement over our previous matches steadily increase we were confident, this match lead to great shots and melee being displayed by both regiments ultimately leaving the match to be decided by the skill of the players late game, great clutches and teamwork being shown was outstanding leaving the victory to be claimed by the 17th this day. Finally, the last battle we embarked on was against the 2eFusGre, leadership for this battle was different than the previously mentioned, Cpt Edward Fraser and Lt James Love took command of the regiment and lead us to a glorious victory. We knew what our skillset would allow us to do and what was needed to win this fight. We wasted no time we marched directly towards the enemy, allowing only for the bare minimum volleys to be fired before appropriately positioning ourselves for melee.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - In August I personally devoted myself to the development of the young Centre Company. We’ve grown to over 40 members in the space of a month and have been getting a steady attendance at the first Centre Company-only events. I’m quite happy with the course of the regiment as a whole and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to devote myself to the regiment even when I go to university this month.

Captain Edward Fraser - August has been a great month for the gren company having won nearly all of our competitive events this month with some good results against the 15thYR and the 2eFusGre. Im very satisfied with the progress we have shown in the regiment getting better as we continue to grow. Hopefully the month of september will be even more productive.

Lieutenant James Love - By the end of August we've essentially developed two self-sufficient companies, and the prospects of those are looking great. The Grenadiers finally put together a nice string of practice matches; our friendly groupfights and 1v1s against 15th have finally come to fruitful results. We are ready and excited for the upcoming competitions, namely NWCL.

Lieutenant William Anderson - August was the first month in which the centre company was implemented to the regiment. That said, we created a new place for people who want to focus more on the casual side of the game rather than the competetive. I, as the new leader of the centre company, can say that we had a great first month, fun events, an incredible increase in members – thanks to the recruiting skills of our leader Daniel Carrick - and we're all looking forward to seeing the centre company prosper even more in the future!

Ensign Walter FitzAlan - August wholly and comprehensively delivered in furtherance of the regiment great myriads of manifold junctures via resolutions produced by and for all members in great drives of community and togetherness, in other words; vir prudens non contra ventum mingit, truly.

04/09/19- 1808 Battle of X Hill

The 17th Regiment of Foot with other regiments representing his Majesty’s forces engaged a Force by a hill peppered with trees opposite to a modest farmstead. The unassuming ground was to be the sight of several musket fire exchanges and brutal bayonet charges. The enemy had taken refuge on the hill and used the terrain well to defend the ground. The 17th first attempted to take the hill by means of beating the entrenched adversary through shooting but was unable to efficiently achieve this aim as the regiment came under fire from three other regiments. With the superior positioning of the enemy the Colonel sought no other option but to push his foe off the hill with bayonet. Momentum and strength of arms did see many regiments withdrawing and what was an impressive feat of holding off several regiments was broken down by the third charge and the regiment took several casualties.

The 2nd stage of the battle saw the 17th come upon the defenders in the same old way, that being the use of volleys and independent firing to carry the day however the line was eliminated by well placed shots of the opposing army, the shooting was close ranged and it is said that the men dropped in quick succession. With the battle looking dire for the 17th, Colonel Carrick attempted to manipulate the farm buildings to his advantage however this was countered by the speedy advance of several lines, confusion was rampant as the commanding officer led his line through the crops until he set himself to another attempt at the hill. With positioning being favourable to the defender in shooting, Colonel Carrick once again chose to engage the enemy with bayonet however this saw limited success and resulted in another loss.

Due to the Colonel being wounded in the previous engagement, the distinguished Ensign of the regiment Walter FitzAlan attempted to take the hill. His approach was aggressive until he was shot and with such close proximity to the enemy the regiment was forced to charge. The battle lines were confused as several regiments engaged the 17th to which the 17th valiantly withstood until the lines were broke and casualties became too grievous. This engagement saw Cpt Edward Fraser (the lone survivor) to seek refuge with another line however he was cut down.

With the commanding officer recuperated, he gathered his forces and used the wheat field as cover to take the enemy by surprise. The advance was successful and the regiment took little casualties whilst in the fields however dealt with intense exchanges of opposing musket fire. The enemy withdrew for respite and it was at this point where Carrick took the opportunity to push the left flank of the entrenched forces. Finally, the enemy had been pushed off the hill with aggressive bayonet fighting despite the 17th taking heavy losses. After this skirmish the enemy was forced to withdraw after losing the hill and could not afford another day of fighting. The 17th may have won the day with its aggressive and decisive tactics however in due time historians will surely note this engagement as a pyrrhic victory.

August 2019

Beginning of July, the 17th is well set in its ways of day to day operations each member doing their part to the best of their ability. The regiment continues to grow at an impressive rate recruiting beginners to well-established veterans into their ranks making that core that much stronger. Due to the success of the regiment this past month there were a few key promotions made within the staff, Col Daniel Carrick with the support of his fellow officers has seen fit that former Serjeant Walter FitzAlan has been doing an excellent job of being an NCO in and out of combat, therefore, earning the commissioned rank of Ensign. This being the first commissioned promotion since the founding of the regiment, Congratulations Ens Walter FitzAlan. Next, Sjt William Anderson for his continued support and devotion to the regiment has been promoted to the senior non commissioned rank of Serjeant Major, truly deserved congratulations. Finally, the addition of two new staff members was made, both LCpl David Lyon and Matthew Munro have received the rank of Corporal for there continued dedication and effort put in since joining the regiment.

As a whole, the regiment has made great strides this month the improvement of both melee, formations and attitude is evident. The regiments first encounter this month was with the 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot a great undeniable skilled regiment, however, knowing this the men not once shied away from the fight. We met them head-on showing no fear, both regiments showing their true range of abilities. Volley fires rippled through the wind for miles, each volley men were dropping by the dozen, once melee charges were called these were extremely brutal very few survivors walked away from the clashes. Due to the experience of the 15th, they could withstand this punishment much longer than we could therefore ultimately claiming the victory this day. Even though we have been defeated we witnessed tremendous improvement from the regiment, thus now giving us the chance to fill in the cracks which ultimately let us down on this day. Just a few days later we were mobilised once more now facing an unheard regiment which always makes for an unknown encounter. These new enemies were identified as the 96th Regiment of Foot "Queen's Own Germans", they were confident and hungry for battle. The 17th still fresh of a loss were somewhat demotivated, however, the officer staff was extremely happy as the 96th gave them the perfect opportunity to iron out all of the mistakes made previously. The battle begins, both regiments showing great form however the 17th were functioning at an all-time high, perfect formations, incredible shots and spectacular melee by the regiment. We quickly began to dominate the field forcing the 96th into a retreat. A few weeks go by and we hear a rumor that Russians have entered the occupied terrority looking for a fight, it wasn't long till they found us, unlike the previous engagements this battle wouldn't be over so quickly, both regiments knowing the capabilities of one another. Straight off there was a period of long-range shooting between the two forces which amounted into little to noncasualties. We had enough it was time to move in, once close we used our shots in a dominating fashion then called for the melee charge. The melee ability shown by both regiments was impressive however the 96y couldn't keep up, the 17th just cut right through them. Coming to the end of the month we faced a familiar opponent, the 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot, a regiment we faced earlier on in the month. Seeing our improvement through countless training sessions and other altercations we knew we had the strength to defeat them this time round. Leadership for this event was different than norm, Cpt Edward Fraser took lead with support from Lt James Love. We took the fight straight to them, the battle raged on numerous shots being fired from either side, leaders trying to outmaneuver one another it was extremely tense the deciding factor to change the direction of the battle came from the melee, 15th's melee as normal was extremely impactful however the 17th never yielded they persevered right till the end dominating the majority of melee engagement resulting in a victory for the 17th.

Now to end off the month an important announcement was made, the decision was put forth to form a new Centre company under the leadership of the Colonel himself. This company will consist of more casual and less experienced players, therefore allowing the regiment to cater for all variety of players. Now that Col Daniel Carrick has undertaken this new duty the current company will now be referred to as the Grenadier Company, this consisting of the current more experienced and competitive players within the regiment. This company will be commanded by Cpt Edward Fraser, Lt James Love and Ens Walter FitzAlan.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - In July the 17th managed to overcome some of our inconsistency issues which we suffered from previously. We also have new additions to our officer staff from the pool of applicants we have received. I’m hoping that the new blood in our leadership can give us a fresh perspective on how we can improve.

Captain Edward Fraser - July has been an eventful month with lots of good competitive events. We've been making great progress this past month specifically in our groupfighting capabilities improving a lot over the month, our attendance has always been on a steady rise getting 20+ for the majority of events with a peak of 28. I hope we can keep it up for august and carry on improving in all aspects of the regiment.

Lieutenant James Love - We have just witnessed the separation of the regimental players into either the Grenadier or Centre companies. This is a great solution to appealing to both the more casual and competitive-minded players within the regiment and defining the direction of the types of events. Besides that, competitive results have definitely been on the uptrack and I am extremely pleased with how things are going.

Ensign Walter FitzAlan - To relay briefly the late month of July, which was bountiful in many aspects, I dare say it was exemplary by what great mileage it afforded the regiment. Our members by and large must have drawn immeasurable benefit from it ad interim; or as was my feeling regarding the matter ante prandium.

July 2019

Beginning of June, the 17th had set its foundations strong the currently enlisted troop were performing at an exceptional rate which satisfied Colonel Daniel Carrick and his fellow officers. The regiments reputation has increased in the eyes of the public due to the victories gained last month, the income of fresh recruits have really bolstered the ranks as of late, therefore, rankers have been split into groups and assigned to a CO or NCO for mentoring. Due to the expansion of the regiment the higher command once again has appointed two new Lance Corporals to assist with the facilitating of all the new recruits.

Over the encompassing weeks, the regiment has been on the move constantly, during the first few days of the month Col Daniel Carrick was called upon to report what they have encountered within the previous month in person. Thereby leaving his men for a short period of time, during this time the regiment was still on the move this was when were first encountered the enemy. The 32nd Black Legion had blockaded our way, therefore, a fight was inevitable, Cpt Edward Frasier with the support of Lt James Love engaged in a quick decisive field battle, the 32nd were no match for the 17th's spectacular shooting and melee, now on the backfoot the 32nd split their force to try and surround us, knowing this Cpt Edward Frasier was quick to adapt and maneuvered to prevent this, the 32nd were divided, losing men by the volley all they could do was retreat. Now hearing the success of the regiment Col Daniel Carrick rushed back in haste to celebrate. However, this was short lived as we received reports that the 57e Regiment d'Infanterie "Les Terribles" had mobilised and are heading in our direction. Knowing the reputation of this enemy force the Officers were worried, we were isolated with no support, we knew we had to stand our ground therefore for 2 days we analysed how best we could repel this ensuing force. We located an area of woodland which had few hills, this was it, this would be where we take our stand. On the 3rd day the battle ensued, the shots of muskets and battle crys from the men could be heard for miles, the battle was even throughout the entirety leaving both sides in doubt about what's going to happen. This was until a sole ranker from the 17th with outstanding and brave heroics single-handedly broke through the enemies line weakening there position entirely, due to this act of bravery the 17th managed to press on and defeat the 57e. Due to his heroics on this day Private Lewis Love was awarded the Distinguished medal which is only ever granted to people who carried out acts under such extreme circumstances. After this conflict the 17th were ordered to set up camp and wait for allied troops to relieve them, this would take around a week till they were on the march again. Now relieved, Col Daniel Carrick lead them forth once more this was where they encountered a familiar face, the 23rd Regiment of Foot who we had previously defeated. Now bolstered by new freshmen the 23rd were hungry for revenge, they came at us with such force becoming rather overwhelming for the men of the 17th. Our formations were suffering, shots were missing and our melee wasn't up to standard. The 23rd managed to overpower us and forced us into retreat. Something we will never forget.

For his heroic efforts of bravery during the battle with the 57e Pte Lewis Love received the Distinguished Award of bravery and courage.
Also, like to congratulate Cpt Edward Frasier on winning the "FitzAlan combined tournament" which was hosted by our own Sjt Walter FitzAlan. After being crowned victor of this tournament Cpt Edward Frasier was awarded the St Andrews Medal by Col Daniel Carrick for his continued dedication and outstanding performance.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - June has been a rocky month for the regiment. We have had many fun events which we performed well in, however we had a few where our performance was subpar. It is important for us to remember that our victories are only relative and that we have much we need to improve on. I’m more than satisfied with the current course of the regiment and I’m eager to see what we can accomplish.

Captain Edward Fraser - So now were onto the third month of our regiment and i can proudly say that we've made great progress having done very well in our competitive matches this month. I am also very happy with the atmosphere in the current regiment its been a very productive and fun month. I hope we can keep improving upon our fundamentals going forward.

Lieutenant James Love - We are over three months in now with the regiment and I am glad to say we have ironed out a lot of the issues that were found in the initial stages. The events we play are fun and exciting, and hopefully soon we will be able to have a competitive run. As summer nears we should expect attendance to become inconsistent, but overall things have shaped up excellently.

June 2019

Beginning of May, the 17th was stationed at the Leicester barracks where Colonel Daniel Carrick with the support of his fellow officers and NCO's have been hard at work drilling daily to prepare the company for battle. As the regiment expands new positions within the company have become available, therefore the appointment of two new Lance Corporals was authorised. These newly promoted men were now tasked with facilitating of the enlisted men in all of their duties, thus making the regiment poised for battle.

Over the ensuing weeks, Colonel Daniel Carrick received orders to mobilize the 17th, now on the march conflict was not far away. First, they were engaged in a large skirmish against the 23rd, this battle was short and decisive resulting in a clean victory for the 17th. Now a taste for battle and high spirits the 17th marched forth once more. Nearing to the end of the month they found conflict with the 15th Yorkshire Regiment of Foot, Col Daniel Carrick, Cpt Edward Fraser and Lt James Love knowing the reputation of the opponents knew there was a hard road ahead. The 17th on the attack forced them into a decisive field battle, as the battle commences it looked like it could go either way. Both regiments suffered from heavy losses due to devastating volleys. Unfortunately for the 17th, the turning point for the 15th was their impressive close quarter melee ability which ultimately overpowered the less experienced 17th to deal the final blow. To seal off the end of the month for the regiment we met the 59th Regiment of Foot in the field. Both regiments inflicting major damage by both shooting and melee, as the battle commenced no side was willing to back down, both leaders constantly testing one another, this was a battle to remember. Due to both regiments performance on this day, a victor didn't emerge leaving the two regiments in a stalemate.

On the last day of the month, it was decided that an internal duel tournament would take place to celebrate the success of the regiment over the past month. As a reward of winning the tournament, the victor will be presented with the prestigious Garter Cross medal as well as the recognition of being the best duelist within the regiment. Therefore twelve of the regiments finest were chosen to participate in the tournament to see who is worthy enough to claim this honour.

After an outstanding performance by all the participants, a victor was crowned.
Congratulations to Cpt Edward Fraser on winning the tournament and receiving the Garter Cross.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - May has been a very busy month for our regiment. We have had plenty of events to test our skills against other regiments which have been quite enjoyable. I'm quite satisfied with how we are coming along as a regiment and this month has been a great example of how far we have come. I eagerly await the challenges before us.

Captain Edward Fraser - So now into the second month of the regiment its been good so far as we've got a steady amount of members attending both comp and casual events. As seen by recent match results I can see a lot of improvement in our formations and discipline, therefore, performing very well against the 15thYR despite the loss. Going into June I hope we can correct our mistakes and work on becoming that much stronger as a regiment and community.

Lieutenant James Love - After a whole two months I can say I am extremely pleased with the stability in terms of attendance, discipline and the atmosphere surrounding the regiment. The officer and staff corps is looking tremendously active, structured and generally useful. Competitively-speaking, results have been mixed, however we must look towards the future and not towards the past.

May 2019

On the 10th of April 2019, Colonel Daniel Carrick was put in charge of the 17th 'Leicestershire' Regiment of Foot, with immediate effect. He quickly nominated two of his most trusted men, Edward Fraser and James Love, to the position of Captain and Lieutenant, respectively. On the same occasion, three men from the regiment were also promoted to the ranks of NCO, namely Colour-Serjeant Donald Witt, Serjeant William Anderson and Serjeant Walter FitzAlan, all tasked with assisting their superiors in re-building the regiment from scratch. The early days of the 17th have been mostly consisting of an intense period of training for the recruits, whilst also having a constant enlistment of new manpower to help the regiment grow in numbers. Colonel Daniel Carrick's aim was to have the regiment ready for battle as soon as possible, without neglecting the important training many of its soldiers required.

On the 28th of April, the 17th Regiment of Foot's new quarters were officially finished, giving the men a relatively safe place where they could relax, discuss and share their stories between engagements. Said battles didn't take long to arrive and only a few days after the regiment's creation, the 17th's soldiers were mobilised in different areas. Among came the first regimental successes, but also the first losses.

A few words from the leadership

We caught up with the members of the 17th's leadership to ask them about their feelings concerning the regiment and their ambitions moving forward.

Colonel Daniel Carrick - The first month of the regiment has gone without a hitch. We have managed to attract some very competent members into the regiment along with a good mix of new players who I recruited on public servers. We hope to begin playing more competitively next month and we have been doing many trainings in preparation for that. I am content with how the regiment is coming along and look forward to playing with the guys in the future.

Captain Edward Fraser - April has been a very busy month for the 17th as this is the first month of our regiment its been very messy/chaotic as things usually are at the beginning but its actually been very fun and productive to see us improve in trainings and events.

Lieutenant James Love - 17th's first month has been going as you'd expect with new regiments; luckily the foundation that we've conceived and constructed looks solid enough and I am looking forward to partaking in various competitive-style events in the near-future, not to mention constantly brushing up our formations and teamplay.

Regiments / 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot [Disbanded]
« on: April 09, 2019, 11:01:59 pm »

Founded on April 10th, 2019, the 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot is an active European Napoleonic Wars regiment. The 17th prides itself on being not only a properly disciplined collective but also on providing a welcoming community to the many players that it hosts. We partake in multiple and numerous kinds of events per week - namely 1v1s, groupfights, casual line battles, and siege events. All that is required of our members is that they behave like gentlemen; this entails acting with the utmost respect equally towards both your superiors and fellow rankers. Trolling is to not be tolerated under any circumstances. The regiment is split in two companies, the Grenadier Company and the Centre Company. The Grenadier Company is the more competitive one which partakes in mainly groupfights and 1v1s and the Centre Company is the more casual one which partakes in mainly line battles and siege events. The regiment consists of a mixture of veterans of the community, and of fresh recruits to the game; with both groups being able to teach the other a thing or two about how things are done. With our mindset focused on improving and integrating the various members of our community, this could very well be the perfect place for you as well. Enlist now!

Two officers of the 17th circa 1840

On 27 September 1688 a commission was issued to Colonel Solomon Richards to raise a regiment of foot in the London area. In its early years, like other regiments, the regiment was known by the name of its various colonels. Following a failed attempt to break the Siege of Derry in 1689, Richards was dismissed and replaced by the Irishman George St George. The regiment embarked for Flanders in 1693 for service in the Nine Years' War and took part in the attack of Fort Knokke in June 1695 and the Siege of Namur in summer 1695 before returning home in 1697.

In 1701 the regiment moved to Holland for service in the War of the Spanish Succession and fought at the siege of Kaiserswerth in 1702, the siege of Venlo later that year and the capture of Huy in 1703. It transferred to Portugal in 1704 and took part in the sieges of Valencia de Alcántara, Alburquerque and Badajoz in 1705 as well as the siege of Ciudad Rodrigo in 1706. It also saw action at the Battle of Almansa in April 1707 before returning to England in 1709. It went to Scotland to suppress the Jacobite rising of 1715 and fought at the Battle of Sheriffmuir in November 1715.

In 1726 the regiment moved to Menorca and in 1751 a royal warrant assigned numbers to the regiments of the line, and the unit became the 17th Regiment of Foot. The regiment embarked for Nova Scotia in 1757 for service in the French and Indian War; it fought at the Siege of Louisbourg in June 1758, at the Battle of Ticonderoga in July 1759, and at engagements in the West Indies in 1762. Following that war it also saw duty during Pontiac's Rebellion before eventually returning to England in 1767.

The regiment embarked for Boston, landing there on New Year's Day 1776, for service during the American War of Independence. It saw action at the Battle of Long Island in August 1776, the Battle of White Plains in October 1776 and the Battle of Fort Washington in November 1776. The regiment also took part in the Battle of Trenton and the Battle of Princeton in January 1777; its performance at the latter battle was commemorated in the addition of an unbroken laurel wreath to its insignia; it went on to fight at the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777 and at the Battle of Germantown in October 1777. Several companies were captured at the Battle of Stony Point in July 1779 by a daring night-time bayonet charge by "Mad" Anthony Wayne. The regiment was in action again at the Battle of Guilford Court House in March 1781 and at the Siege of Yorktown in September 1781.

A royal warrant dated 31 August 1782 bestowed county titles on all regiments of foot that did not already have a special designation "to cultivate a connection with the County which might at all times be useful towards recruiting". The regiment became the 17th (Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot. The regiment moved to Nova Scotia in 1783 before returning to England in 1786.

The regiment was increased to two battalions in 1799 and both battalions took part in the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland, being present at the Battle of Bergen in September 1799 and the Battle of Alkmaar in October 1799, before the second was disbanded in 1802. In 1804 the regiment moved to India, and remained there until 1823. In 1825 the regiment was granted the badge of a "royal tiger" to recall their long service in the sub-continent.The Regiment was posted to New South Wales from 1830 to 1836.
