It should be released very soon, and I too am excited! But, patience is key. (It should be released very, very, very, very, soon.)

:D, it sort of is essential for my NaS regiment to have medics in the game :P

I'd imagine so, although you can say that when you shot someones arm in the game you were amputating :p
I already have one man in my regiment interested in being a medic for the regiment, and this seems pretty neat idea to employ.  I just hope its not a constant pain that every five seconds I die from bleeding out, not sure the specifics of the patch but I'm sure that will all come out when the patch arrives :)
