Title: Nostalgic reflections on games past
Post by: Rejenorst on December 24, 2013, 12:25:52 pm
I suppose this is a thread dedicated to chatting about feelings of nostalgia over old titles you might have/had, feel free to chat/discuss any older titles you remember fondly.

I stumbled across a youtube video of the Warcraft 2 soundtrack. I bought Warcraft 2 when I was traveling in France as a kid and bringing it home to play on our newly purchased windows 95. It was the first game I ever played that had a CD soundtrack and what a soundtrack. I loved the game art especially all the amazing pictures by Metzen in the manual, the game story and game world as well as the soundtrack which was awesome and the voice acting. Sadly I never quite felt the same way with Warcraft 3 and definitely lost interest in the series with the release of World of Warcraft.

I mean the soundtrack was amazing for the time:
Spoiler
Some of my favorites from the soundtrack:

Grew up on a combination of that and Dungeon Keeper. Also Freelancer a bit later on.

Ah, for me it's Morrowind, Dungeon Siege, and Freelancer; the games that raised me. I recently played Morrowind again with the overhaul mod, fucking amazing :D

EDIT: Age of Mythology best RTS ever :P

BF 1943?  :P
Nah I'm with you. A shame it was never released for PC, and yeah, an even newer version would be awesome.

But yeah 1942 is something I really look back to with pleasure.
Same with Rome Total War and Age of Mythology.

Stronghold Crusader, played that game so many times when I was 10 or so. I remember that I always made my castles exactly like the AI did. (The standart castle they make).  :-*

You guys need to help me out with a game that I can't remember the name to! I will describe it as good as I can.

It was a game where you could play coop and it was for ps2, but possibly for ps1. You had your guy which wore a white outfit with a black ski mask. It was a snowy area which you had to sneak around and kill enemies with your gun. As said you could have a friend with you and you would go around killing people. That's all I can remember really. I hope you guys know what I mean  ;)

Nah man, can't remember remote control heli. I just remember what I described. Me and my friend would play it a lot. You have ski masks and if I remember correctly, ak 47 and you shoot people in a military base which is covered in snow.

Cossacks European Wars and the expansions were pretty awesome, Though it hasn't aged well and the AI makes the Total War battle AI seem like a genius in comparison.

This trailer still gives me the shivers. (http://youtu.be/4Ey1XYTdvGg)

Ys for the Turbografx 16 comes to mind most. Second place is probably Zombies Ate my Neighbors on the Sega Genesis with my pal, great co-op game.

Anything from any Oddworld game hits me right in the nostalgia cavity. Also, PS1 games like Disney's Hercules, Tomb Raider (what I remember as Underworld, I could be wrong), definitely the original Sam & Max game (with actually knowing Steve Purcell, you tend to get into Sam & Max pretty easily), and for sure, the Pokemon games before the DS. I think I played the first generation that DS had, but I didn't play past that. #goldwasmyshit #betterthansilver #betterthancrystal #hoohalltheway

Speaking of Ys, the whole series (PC) just went on sale for the Community choice sale (75% off) on Steam. If you don't buy it, you hate videogames.

Sounds like Syphon Filter.... except that was more of a shooter than stealth game.
