ART moving without limber
« on: November 13, 2012, 08:37:16 am »
Hello,
it would be nice, if a cannon could be moved without limber, if at least 4 men are available at a cannon.
Moving should be surely "slower" than with a limber and  only a few meters.

That could be nice but i suspect the devs are somewhat busy with Battlecry Freedom and will be for the foreseeable future.

Hmm, removing the limbers could work. Although perhaps small calibre horse artillery, less range/smaller cannonball - but quicker to move. Historically horse artillery was generally attached to regiments on campaign for close-range support.

Problem is: where is the sense? The maps are commonly too small that the range has no effect in that game. Second is to say, a cannon ball from a 6 pounder has the same effect on a line as a 12 pounder. And I fear everyone is then using the 6 pounder, because it should have a shorter reloading time and it is faster in moving.

As an suggestion I would say: nerf the rockets! Nerf the area damage, because it could not be, that the rockets cause the same explosion like a explosive shell from a howitzer. It should make an instent kill for the direct hit on an unit and damage nearby players but dont make a significant explosion. Maybe it can set up the nearby terrain under a small fire, but that's it. And remove the damage on buildings, normally a rocket should only make a scratch on a wall!. So rocket batteries are more common in lbs, because of fun and nerfed effectivenessxD

Perhaps it could work better on a larger map like The Battle of Manassas in N&S

Yeah, I was mostly considering use for larger maps. Is always frustrating when there's pretty much just 2 teams of arty firing at each other at the end of a Linebattle

I really like the idea, sometimes the horses move a tad to much or too little, and you're just stuck in a bad spot. Being able to move it up or back a little would really help everyone out.

I'm not speaking for the developers here, but it seems like something that should be modded rather than coded as an official feature.
