Well, due to the better British schooling system, when it came to my GCSE's in history, we were taught about the history us brilliant british kids are just dying to find out about: Germany 1918-39.

God, could it get any worse? (Okay, maybe it could).
Hitlers rise to power is fairly interesting, but learning about the Spartacists and the Freikorps and all this other mundane stuff we frankly don't give a flying fuck about seems a little pointless. We avoid all the interesting bits like actually learning about WW1 and WW2 like the plague. Granted, they are all important events that led up to WW2, but as adolescent teens we want a bit more action.

That takes up 2/3 topics we learn about, the final topic is Vietnam. Yeah, it's pretty interesting but we don't really learn about the warfare side of things, just the politics/civil side of things (fairly interesting, we go into the things like kent state, the various songs and things). The most we learn about warfare are S&D missions and all the operations that took place, not the weapons, gear etc that people like me are probably more interested in.

To sum up, the British school kids that I have talked to want to learn about more interesting things: perhaps the British empire or the colonial period. (Fairly nationalistic approach but...meh).

Good luck!

I think a perfect time period would be the American Revolution.
I find myself agreeing with this, you have european interest (from the brits, and the american allies) and you have your americans.

Also a little question, if I may be so brash. Do you guys in america feel the same way about the Napoleonic Wars as we (euros) do about the civil war, e.g not giving a rats ass?

These are a couple of good sites for getting napoleonic models:

These guys do both metal and plastic (also they are ex-games workshop staff, so their models are of high quality)
http://www.perry-miniatures.com/

These guys give you more bang for your buck, (each set gives you ~50 men and costs ~£20 per box, also their deals are pretty good) They're also the guys I decided to go with, it was close between these guys and ones above. They also specialize in 28mm, which are my personal favorites.

Both of these sites figures can be interchanged with each other because they are so similar.

Also if you are going to paint, glue etc, I would go for citadel paints, glue, brushes etc because they are of a very high quality and can be trusted:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/home.jsp

They also give you a few guides on how to paint and glue (although for their own ranges of models(40k, warhammer fantasy, LOTR but you can easily apply them to napoleonics.

A few good (external) forum threads and youtube links as well:

They should all be taken with a pinch of salt as they might not be the best, but they helped me get better at painting and modelling (I am literally shite).

One unfortunate time of mine, was about a week ago coming home from school. Because my term had ended they let us go early, this was at about 12:00 in the afternoon. I walked home knowing that my dad was still in bed. 45 minutes later I arrived at the front door of the ramshackle place I like to call home. I rung the bell a couple of times but to no avail.
I decided I needed to knock on my dads window. I did. It failed to grasp his attention from his dormant state. I went back around to my front door to play on my phone. When I realized I brought my crappy old one because my good one was out of battery. I had only one song on there: 'Imperial March' played by the London symphony orchestra. For 2 whole hours I played this on repeat. By the end of it I knew it inside and out. My dad opened the door and asked 'How long have you been waiting outside?',
I replied 'only two hours'. I entered my house and switched on my PC.
