Historical Discussion / Re: Which nations are the worst at fighting wars?
« on: January 13, 2022, 11:17:35 am »
this thread was just set up to cause controversy

anyways, Austria pretty poopoo at napoleonic and "modern day" warfare

yeah, they just defeated Napoleon in the field by themselves at Aspern, but they pretty poopoo...surely Prussians, Russians and even British can say the same.

Austria definitely deserves more respect. They were rather "worst at winning wars" perhaps. But Austrian army was always formidable foe. It started to lose momentum after 1850 because of the rigid politics and overall conservatism. And Austria was handicapped compared to every other nation from the get go obviously: for a state which didnt have any national identity, it was able to get pretty decent job from its troops.

And dont forget they had beaten Frederick the Great before anyone did (1757) as well as Napoleon (1809). Plus they were beating italians all the time - as everyone for that matter - there goes my vote  ;D

And to quote Napoleon himself:
"It is evident you were not at Wagram."
Said to a person who dared to mock austrians in his presence.

Spoiler
...and btw I really dont get where this idea of austria getting stuff just through diplomacy came from. Because of Metternich only? Kaunitz did some impressive work, that however didn't help Austria to win any war...cant recall any other austrian diplomatic victory...

EDIT: oh, do you mean AEIOU getting-stuff-through-marriage diplomacy in 15/16th century? Thats ancient history :D

I made some tweaks for a few units in the game...

First of all big NOTICE! if you decide to install these skins - you need Bluehawk's Russian Revision Mod. Not just because it is a great reskin and I consider my mod as continuation of it (in regards of fixing vanilla skins), but mainly because I didn't backup my vanilla files before I overwrite them with it so I can't guarantee compatibility without it.

1.) Rheinbund Mounted Jaegers
Spoiler
I was never fan of this unit simply because I felt its look dont meet the quality standards of the rest of the game (sorry to anyone who made them). Which is a shame because it is a cool unit, moreover the only mounted jaegers/chasseurs-a-cheval in the game! (my all time favorite napoleonic troop)

So I made some general revamp. First of all, you can choose whether you prefer pre-1810 fancy uniform or post 1810 spanish campaign uniform, the most distinguishable change is either helmets or bearskins (colbacks). I also redone most of their textures and they also received new leatherwork. Horses received new saddles (based on french ones).

Credits: Officer's red baggy pants were modified from the L'Aigle mod.

2.) Austrian Feldjaegers
Spoiler
Another thing that always bothered me was shade of the Austrian Jaeger's uniform. It is too dark. Jaegers wore typically "hechtgrau" (pike gray) which was way lighter and had blueish tint.

So I changed color of their uniforms, which is now brighter. I also added 3 oak leaves onto their cockades and hornist received "swallow nests" on his shoulders.

There is however one ISSUE:Some other units are using austrian jager pants. Prussian Jaegers for example, but that I was able to fix (switched those to Prussian infantry pants). But those of Bavarian Jaegers and Russian Pioneer can not be changed, and as a result now have much lighter pants.

3.) Rheinbund Cavalry Guard
Spoiler
I've also updated a bit Saxon Garde du Corps. I dislike the original shade of their uniforms, although it isn't quite clear from reference images what exact shade they actually wore, but I decided for a bit more saturated one. I also made their uniform less rugged.

I also made a new saddle for the officer. The thing is that cavalry officers during napoleonics usually had fancier saddles than the troopers, but in the game they all have the same.
I will probably make more officer saddles for other units in the future, however the game files allows it only for some.

Also one ISSUE: the trumpeter share the same saddle model with the officer, although he should have rather troopers saddle. There's no fix for that afaik.

Released Modifications / Re: Cavalry sword animation

It really does not work. What a bummer....although, didn't I see this animation somewhere else? Doesn't L'Aigle have it already?

there were no rank insignias on austrian napoleonic uniforms. they first appeared like in 1850s

« on: June 30, 2016, 08:14:06 am »
Guys...i really appreciate the informations, but why are the Scots Greys not in the game anymore?  ;D
except for the brown horses they looked good - i dont see the point to remove them, that's why i asked...

grenadier skirmishers? you mean light infantry carabiniers?

...spontoons also sounds great. shame that theyre gone

Oh. Thanks, but that still doesnt answer why they were removed.

...I found a thread here with Scots Greys custom skin. Maybe it is the case after all...I will check them.

Hello,
I bought the game few days ago and I've been searching for some M&B Nap videos on YouTube and noticed that there were Scots Greys in the mod but not anymore (if am I not mistaken). What's the reason?

Thanks
