But both you and Millander were just throwing arguments at me proving the opposite.

And yes, you see many different uniforms and colours because there WERE many different uniforms and colours.

in a single company? Yeah right pft.

I'm sorry we don't have thousands and thousands of re-enactors.

How does that exsuce allow reenactors to get a various uniform in a single rank of a company?

The Pictures you probably looked at were small events that get a lot of publicity because of the government interest. For example, Wavre.

What happens is that only a few guys of a regiment show up, people bunch together and Ta-da! Looks awful, I know.

On the point of the picture, those forage caps could easily be looted.
Just like the rest of the uniforms anyway.
Probably one of the very few old-timers here who hasn't been a regimental leader.

After the battle of Fredericksburg in 1862. The Confederates soldiers would leave their lines to loot greatcoat and items to keep them warm during the winter.

I remember reading a lovely FB discussion about wheter the Rebs did or did not loot dead Federals for their trousers.

Sadly, this photograph isn't that great in detail quality, so we really can't tell where the forage caps came from. Sounds a bit unlikely that they would wear a stolen blue one, two years into the war.

Of course, having same forage cap for years may sound unlikely. But you must know there are 4 winters in the war. Virginia do get cold in the winter just like any other northern states.  With expection of the Confederate-Federals in the west because they were already deep south by mid-war. It doesnt get cold deep south.

Oh you're a reenactor in the 19th Indiana?   Tim Bender is really great for Hardee.

So I've been told, it's either that or continue borrowing the old floppy one in the company stores

My cavalry Giberne is now officially being made, hurrah!

I'd love to show a pic, but I just can't seem to find one. It's in British style, just like most of the weaponry. In fact, the KGL Hussar IG wears one  :P

Giberne? "just like most of the weaponry" I assume is that type of sword?

Oops, sorry. It's a cartridge box (with sling)

Giberne is the French word. In Dutch it's 'Patroontas', though we use the French word just as much, which is why I didn't realize it's different in English.
Apart from a cartridge box, it's also a carbine sling. Not that I have a carbine, though. I do have to get the carbine ring, because the giberne is simply not complete without it.
