Yes, some soldiers during the Civil War had smoothbores, but those were farmers, and other soldiers formed into militia regiments where the government could not supply them.

Like the irish brigade  8) ;D

Which Irish Brigade? Lol. As I recall, there were three. Two Federal (New York and Massachusetts), and one Rebel (From the Southern States, most Virginia and the Carolinas).

There was one Irish Brigade in the Union Army. It was predominately from New York, but had a Massachusetts regiment.
Two, to be precise, but the first MA regiment (29th) was replaced by the 28th.

The New York irish brigade I mean.
Each regiment was equipt with old M 1842 smoothbore muskets, which gave some disadvantages to them :)

Perhaps linebattles will be possible in the mod if each side is using carbines instead rifles, just saying  ;D

No, linebattles will be possible. They will be very much like the N&S linebattles, where loose formations are allowed, but as long as you're together, you can shoot.

Yes, there were machine guns in the war.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitrailleuse
While in the american civil war very few machine guns were deployed, in the franco prussian war there were 310.

If you want to know more about how it works then you should watch this video.

So, please tell me, I am anxious for your answers.

Do you still want to make a line battle with that thing there?  ;)

GG lines who use old formations and tactics.
Humans are extremely complicated creatures. Death uncomplicates them to a frightening degree...
