Introduction to The Royal Recruits

Founded 14th of August, 2004 by Arquebusier and Forlorn Hope, The Royal Recruits are one of the oldest Battlegrounds clans, having been founded in the era of the original Battlegrounds and moving on to Battlegrounds 2 and Napoleonic Wars, however our tenure in Battlegrounds 2 has come to and end and now we are exclusively involved in Napoleonic Wars.

Spurred by a passion for history, we became originators of line battle game-play in BG1 and innovators in techniques and maps which to this day have evolved into old standards.
The Royal Recruits have developed, along with a devotion to discipline and history, an unprecedented level of camaraderie; at the core The Royal Recruits are a community of friends, whether it be fighting alongside your comrades in a match or relaxing at our weekly movie night, a friendly atmosphere prevails, where we respect and rely upon one another in order to succeed and have a good time.
With this strong foundation, The Royal Recruits have weathered all rough patches, and will continue to do so for a long time to come.

We might come off as a bit undisciplined by the way our thread looks, but we consider discipline indispensable, but it must be inner discipline, motivated by a common purpose and a strong feeling of comradeship.

Activities

Weekly Training takes place every Saturday at 7PM GMT (UK) - 8PM CET (EU) - 1PM EST (NA) , We expect our members to attend this on a regular basis.
This is followed by a linebattle or a fun event, such as a scrim or one of our many mini-games (Officer-tag, zombies etc).

Linebattles
The Royal Recruits specializes in linebattle gameplay and we are dedicated to participating in as many of the community events as we can, to build a good relationship with the rest of the community of clans and regiments and to test our skill!
We have two linebattles a week on average, which is more than enough and giving us and our members lots of flexibility to do other things!

Fundamentally, TRR is about fun and we play a wide selection of other games and mods together such as the Paradox Games, Arma series, Red Orchestra 2, Total War games, War Thunder, Native Warband and many more! We are always open for suggestions so do not hesitate to suggest your favourite game or mod!

Spoiler

Hello Gents!

In this new event of ours we are aiming to hold a weekly event based on a rotation of different gamemodes. These gamemodes are as follows: Siege, Line Battle and Conquest. We are looking for other disciplined, respected regiments with solid attendance to join our new event.

How the rotation will work:
Every week we will be doing something different, so our regulars will not get bored of doing the same thing over and over again. We start the rotation with a siege event, followed by a regular line battle, and ends in a conquest. After this rotation, we start from the beginning again.

These events will be hosted on Saturday at 7PM GMT. For these weekly events, we will be allowing the following classes: Line Infantry (No Lights/Rifles/Skirms), Cavalry, & Artillery. Since it is hard-impossible to play as cavalry during a siege event, cavalry regiments will have to play as regular line when the siege event is up on rotation. Light infantry units will not be allowed in these events.

Classes
Line Infantry - minimum is 6 and max. is 35 (larger groups can sign up, but will have to split their line in two)
Cavalry - minimum is 5 maximum is 13 per team (one officer and one musician do not count toward this total).
No lights
Artillery - 2 cannons (or 1 cannon and 1 howitzer) allowed per team - minimum 3 artillerymen allowed to man it. Maximum amount of men is 10, which also includes guard units and a sapper.
Every line and artillery unit may have a sapper, do not hoard the points or abuse.

To make sure everyone has fun, it is imperative that everyone sticks to the same rule set, it's up to regiment leaders to make sure their own men are aware of the rules as well.

Main Rules for all gamemodes:

- Be cool, refrain from ramboing, trolling, spamming, glitching, teamkilling, No abusive behavior (Do not be abusive to other regiments).

Rules for Siege:

Siege is an attack/defend gamemode where the attacker must capture the fort to win and where the defender, with a limited number of lives (5), must try to protect their fort until the time runs out.

We will be doing two 25 minute rounds, where each side gets to attack and defend.

The attacking side is only allowed to move out of spawn with a minimum of 5 men, while the defending side can move out of spawn freely, but may only move out of the fort with a minimum of 5 men.

Rules:
- When inside the fort, defending regiments do not have to be organized. However, they must have a line (min. 5 men) to move outside the fort, if they so choose.
- Attacking regiments have to be organized when moving out of spawn and when attacking the fort. Once they are inside or near the fort, they are allowed to be more informal with their movements and tactics.

Artillery rules for siege:
- Artillery crew/guard can move out of spawn at once.

Rules for Line Battle:

Line Battle is a last-man-standing gamemode where you must eliminate the enemy team to achieve a victory point.

This gamemode will consist of 6 rounds spread on two different maps. After the third round on the first map, we will change to a new map.

Rules:
- Fire in charge is allowed, but the regiments MUST be within approx. 50 meters before charging each other. We do NOT want regiments charging at each other from across a wide battlefield.
- No reloading in a charge.
- When charging, do not spread out TOO MUCH (10-20 meter gaps between each person will not be allowed).
- If less than 3 men, join another line if possible, or charge.
- No ramboing. (Unless retreating to a friendly line)

Cavalry rules for regular Line Battle:
- Dragoons are not allowed.
- When reduced to 2 horsemen, dismount and face the enemy or retreat to a friendly line.

Artillery rules for regular Line Battle:
- Artillery guard can fight as skirmishers, but have to stay close to their unit.

Rules for Conquest:

Conquest is also known as capture-the-flag, you must capture pre-determined neutral or enemy flags and your team must hold these flags against the enemy.

Each side will start with around 800 points (could be more or less, depending on map and player size)

Both sides have a base spawn, they are only allowed to spawn there and need to have a minimum of 5 men to move out from spawn to the battlefield.
Spawning on any other flag will result in a warning, and possibly a ban, you really have to push it to get this far with us though.

Rules:
- Fire in charge is allowed, no reloading in a charge.
- If less than 3 men, join another line if possible.
- No ramboing. (Unless retreating to a friendly base.)
- This being a linebattle, its essential that everyone fires in formation and maintains a line formation (see Fortifying a flag below for a specific on holding flags)
- ALL players must spawn at the base flags.
- Cannons are not allowed to fire at enemy spawn.
- When stranded at a flag with less than 3 men, you have to wait there and garrison or regroup at a friendly flag.
- Teams may NOT cap the spawn point of their enemy.

Fortifying a flag is allowed, you can spread out a bit within a small radius of the flag, do not spread out in an area 400 meters wide, for example.
Admins will keep an eye on this, lets keep it cool and within common sense.

Cavalry rules for conquest:
- When reduced to 2 horsemen, dismount and either join a line, fortify a flag, or regroup at a friendly flag.
- Cavalry are not allowed to attack capture points unless they're helping an infantry assault.
- Cavalry are not allowed to capture points.
- Dragoons are not allowed.

Artillery rules for conquest:
- Artillery crew/guard can move out of spawn at once (must go to their cannon).
- Artillery guard can fight as skirmishers, but have to stay close to their unit.

If anyone has a complaint/problem/suggestion concerning the event, let your leader discuss it with us (on steam) so we can find a solution. Typing in in-game chat is not as effective.
