The History of The Real 20th


The 20th, East Devonshire Regiment was formed in 1688 in Devon under Sir Richard Peyton as Peyton's Regiment of Foot.

The regiment's name changed according to the name of the colonel commanding until 1751, when it became the 20th Regiment of Foot.

It served in the Glorious Revolution under King William III and at the Battle of the Boyne in July 1690 and Aughrim in 1691. During the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714), it aided in the capture of Spanish galleons at Battle of Vigo Bay in 1702.

The regiment distinguished itself at the Battle of Dettingen in June 1743, and at Fontenoy in May 1745, and served in the Battle of Culloden in April 1746.

During the Seven Years' War the regiment earned honour at the Battle of Minden on 1 August 1759, when, as an infantry formation, the men stood up to and broke a French cavalry charge. The regiment was sent to Quebec in April 1776 and assisted in the relief of Quebec in May 1776. Serving under General John Burgoyne for the remainder of the Canadian campaign, they later surrendered along with General Burgoyne at Saratoga.

The 20th are looking for mature and committed Napoleonic Wars players.
Although we like to have fun and mess around occasionally, when it comes to getting serious we play properly.
We are a very friendly community who are always socialising outside of events and play numerous other games together. We have two Companies - Center Company and Artillery Company.

The Auxiliary Companies of The 20th Regiment of Foot

The Auxiliary Companies of the 20th are designed to give a stable and steady support for the Center Company, They are specialised in a different area of just infantry, they are however trained men in the art of Infantry and maybe called upon as reserves for the Center company. These men are designed to multitask and hold their own.

Royal Artillery Detachment

The Artillery company are men who love big balls... And explosions... These guys are some of the strongest men in the regiment, they are also the ones that are not afraid to get their hands dirty, they spend their days pouring gunpowder out, ready to be loaded into the guns to fire them. They also have a lot of spare time, usually pouring out cartridges for the center company, also spend their spare time drinking a special brew, only known as Bombardier. However when called into action, they put on their Navy blue uniforms, which are usually quite sooty, and gather into position to fire their big guns upon the advancing enemy.

The Light Company

The Newest company added to the 20th, It houses the best shots within the regiment, these guys tend to be of lighter build than the Artillery and Center companies, although appearences can be deceiving, they maybe not strong, however they are quick and deadly, also able to hold their own in melee, These guys don't see very much of the center company, however the center company do like when they lay down some accurate fire down, taking out retreating, important or long range targets. They usually use a musket with specialised gunpowder densities in order to make their rifles longer range and accurate, however they're not afraid to use Rifles when needed to do so.
