Dragoons. The dragoons wore shako's with red pompons, white plumes and cords, fittings in the button colour. The green tunic had nine buttons, the dark green overalls had wide stripes in the facing colour. In 1840 the uniform was altered slightly, collars had piping a patch in the facing colour and a button on the front ends; the old Swedish cuffs had rectangular flaps added, the epaulettes were of metal in the button colour and the green waist sash was piped in the facing colours. Belts were white. | Cossacks. The Cossacks had a somewhat irregular uniform but usually wore their national costume, usually dark blue with black fur caps and baggy blur trousers and black belts. Officers wore silver epaulettes. | Mounted Rifles. These chaps wore the infantry Kiwer Shako with cockade and green cords, green overalls with two wide stripes in the facing colour, green tunic with green collar and white buttons. Facings were worn on the collar piping, shoulder straps, cuffs and turnbacks. For the Crimean War though the Infantry helmet was worn. | Hussars. The regimental braid was also the colour of the trim to sabretache and shabraque. This trim was in wolf's tooth style until 1840, thence smooth. The barrel sashes were in the colour combination of the shako and the regimental braid. The pelisses were edged in grey fur, belts were white. They wore the Shako with eagle plate and regimental number pierced in. | Lancers. The Imperial Lancers were part of the light cavalry and like so many others wore the czapka, slate blue kurtka and grey overalls. The top half of the czapka was in the regimental colour. All but the Guard lancers wore white buttons who had red facings and czapka's, yellow buttons and scale epaulettes. The front rank would be armed with lances and sword, the second rank with carbine and sword. |
