	History The "1. Garde Regiment zu Fuß" The " Das erste Garde Regiment zu Fuß" ("1st Foot Guards") was formed in 1806 and made up of leftovers of the old foot guards, after the defeat of Prussia against  Napoléon in the battle of Jena-Auerstedt. At first, these leftovers were only 25 brave men, but it had grown fast to a number of 500 men representing the new guard. Most Prussian kings and princes had worn the "1st Foot Guards" uniform. Next to typical prestegious dutys and dutys as guards, the "1st Foot Guards" had been, in times of peace, an experimental regiment. Not only new uniforms, weapons and equipment, but also new doctrins and instructions had been tested and corrected, if necessary, befor they had been introduced to the rest of the Prussian army. In this context it is easy to understand that the "Lehr-Infanterie Bataillon" in Potsdam had been part of the "1st Foot Guards". Just like every other regiment of the old "Prussian Army" (until 1871, and until 1919 German Empire) the "1st Foot Guards" was dismissed in 1919, after the First Worl War. Commander 12.
