I'm looking forward to playing as line infantry. Specifically Union because slavery is bad yo!

Naw.
Confederacy all the way.
Sniper do sound very interesting! :DPoppin' officer's caps off ;D
Too many snipers.
We need more flesh in the frontlines.
If the Union Army still exists at the release, we I will ofcourse continue leading the Irish Brigade into battles.
Infantry all the way.I am afraid that your role has already been chosen.
Confederate Guerilla Infantry, striking at those poncy blue-uniformed Union soldiers from the shadows!
I'm British, so I've no personal preference, I just like the idea of guerilla warfare.

As much as I love standing in the frontline and charging the enemys with my bayonet, I'm most probably going to play as scout on public servers. Sneaking behind the enemys and do a nice little surprise attack sounds like great fun to me. :D
But I will first have to see what the different roles are going to be like.
Graham (made his first post on the new forum)
A true gentleman and OFFICER of INFANTRY of course... time to put Johnny Reb down for good 8)
Should have known that you would be engineer Morth :P
In a pyromaniac way or a simpleton way?
it will be interesting how sipers work, i do not know much about the time period so i didn't know they even had them xDThey had snipers even in the 1700's. I'm not sure if a sniper was just a very skilled marksman, or if the rifle was actually made for sniping. I think it was the former though. So I guess a sniper will just be what a rifleman is to a line infantryman in NW. Just more accurate.
Arty is the man's job! This is what artyscrubs actually believe ! :3

Line infantry melee is the best part about this kinda game for me, so I'm excited to play that! :)Being massacred one by one by my sabre from behind is the best part about line infantry ;)
A sniper so that I can shoot the officers and engineers :D
+1 for Cavalry ;)
+1 for Cavalry ;)
Who needs a horse when you have a cannon or an officer sword? ;)

Cavalry! Because playing the bugle on foot is just a bit less badass.
I'm surprised there's no cavalry regiment as of yet.
Maybe I'll start one... 8)
there is a place in hell for cav and its full of trees
Cavarly specialized in dismounted skirmishing. I'm gonna ride up, park my horse, shoot that officer, and before the infantry can reach me, I'll be looooong gone.
Line
Nothing more glorious then dying next to a respected officer
Confederate Officer, probably going to make my own regiment because I'm a very good strategist and I kick ass with a pistol.
But playing as infantry man sounds cool too, I live for the dangers that lie ahead!
CAV FTW.
Sniper. Best way to disrupt a line is to take out their officer...
This is a complement in the Skirmisher world...Sniper. Best way to disrupt a line is to take out their officer...
Oh god, better get some decoys ready...
Officers make good targets, and good challenges. So, most likely I would be a sniper.Peter Broetz best officer aimer EU
Line Infantry Commander, best role of all time. Standing there with 40 soldiers and fire volley after volley at the enemy. Nothing can beat this feeling.Charging the line as heavy cav can... >.<
It actually scares me how close the officer vote is to the line infantry. So many pistols.={Not alot of rankers go on the forums.
I would go scout, just because the idea of creeping around and letting your team know exactly where the enemy is sounds awesome to me and the idea of small groups of scouts ambushing much larger regiments with a volley or two and quickly withdrawing to the shadows.Scouts would be cavalry but they have muskets to.
eh just my mental image on the scouts
Well, if every member who didn't vote for officer is a ranker, and every officer would establish a regiment, and devide all players equally, you would get a regiment size of exactly:
3,4 men per officer

There are usually more than one officer in a regiment.
I'd honestly need to go with cavalry. Cavalry is an important asset to an army in that time period and without them, an army is blind without the information from them. They can pretty much fight as well as infantry when dismounted... John Buford at Gettysburg proved that when his two brigades held against General Heth's division, keeping the high ground under Union control.
You might want to add navy incase you do add itWould be cool to have some modern ironclads at least included in the maps like in I think 1 or 2 North and South maps.

We have far too many people that want to be an officer nowadays. Personally I think a lot of people have the wrong idea behind being an officer. Everyone wants to be an officer because it is a high, fancy rank that you can show off to others. You are not an officer so that the rankers can praise you and stroke your ego. Officers and NCOs are there to make sure events go smoothly and the players under them have a fun time playing the game. I've spent more time as an officer or an NCO than I ever did as a ranker and to me the best moments where when others respected me for helping them enjoying the game, teaching new things and having a laugh during events because we all died horribly to a well placed cannonball.
Not necessarily. Even though there are probably a lot of people that go officer just because they want to show off and have a fancy uniform, there are others out there (like me) that actually want to be officer because they enjoy what an officer has to do. Personally, I have always enjoyed taking a position where I have various responsibilities in a community (moderator, administrator, w/e), so being an officer is something I want to do. Not because I want to have a nice uniform, but because I enjoy leading. But I understand what you mean though, not everyone is like me, and not everyone wants to be an officer "for the right reasons." :PI'd have to be a Officer, because iv'e worked my ass off to come as far as I have in NW and i cant wait to lead in this! How many rankers do we have per officer at the moment? To be honest, I think that I'd a Confederate, as much as I don't like slavery, I do want a decent hat. :P
I think they used slouch hats a lot, which I prefer over the Kepi style hats.

American kepis would be pretty great if they were just a little taller, and had a leather frame... and were called "shakos".
