Unable to connect error - Fixed
« on: July 13, 2016, 11:08:16 pm »
My sincere apologies for once again bringing up one of the most common problems in the community, but I am at a loss and none of the fixes I have tried - yes I am one of the people that actually tries things - have worked.

In another thread that was closed two days ago, Forum User Freedom claimed he had fixed his own problem. His language was pretty unclear to me so I asked him to elaborate. He quoted his old post. The quote is on spoiler below.

Try closing and opening connection while ingame.I mean do it while you are at "Internet"

I am going to throw this out here in hopes that someone knows how to fix this, or can make educated guesses.

So my problem:

Once I go to 'Multiplayer' in NW, as you know you end up in the server list,  I get the 'Unable to connect to server' error. I cannot do any online playing beacuse of this. My internet is not a problem, I have checked. There are no problems whatsoever with other games, apps or other programs. I therefore concluded that this must be clienside game problems (duh).

There are many people who posted this problem on the TW forum. None of it applies to me, as far as I have seen.

What I have done:

 - I went to my rgl_config.txt to check if Secure connections was at '0' (most common fix)
 - I restarted my computer
 - I deleted the game (thrice) and reinstalled
 - I verfied the integrity of my game cache (thrice)
 - I have reset my router and my modem twice.
 - Went into the rgl_config.txt and set max number of connections to 6, as instructed in the stickied post in this board

Needless to say, none of this works. I had this problem before, about a year ago, right after the time I left this forum. I didn't bother with fixing it then, because I didn't play NW or any M&B for that matter.
The peculiar thing is, that I have played NW for a couple of days last week: I joined the 18e, I could play, after all.
Now, between the time I left this forums and when I first encountered this problem, and now, my harddrive crashed, so I had the store put in a new one. I assume that this also fixed to problem. Unless it is something hard-ware related, and not related to my HDD, but I think this unlikely.

The game did not fix itself over a couple of days now. Mount and Blade's magical regeneration powers do not work on me. A bloody shame.

I hope there is some amazing person reading this who has the magical all-fix button. I hope to hear from you

Do you get the "Unable to connect to server" error when you are trying to join a server or the server list just doesnt appear?I had problem with joining servers some time ago. I always got this error. What I did was repeatedly click the "Connect" button and after clicking it about 20 times (sometimes more or less) I connected.

The server list doesn't appear at all and the error comes up as soon as I click 'Multiplayer' in the NW main menu.

Fixed by putting mb_warband.exe in the main directory in compatability mode (XP service pack 3) and running as admin

UPDATE: this caused an error: 'could not reset 3d device - this game will now close'

After searching: this is an alt-tab error (gamecrash upon alt-tab) running in windowed mode fixes this (and not alt-tabbing)
