The Bus



Introduction

The Bus is a Role-Playing Game similar to the very popular Roll-To-Dodge Series. Players will create a Player Character and work together to get to a predetermined destination or reach a predetermined objective that is agreed upon by the players and Game Master (Volk). 

Setting

Setting: Europe 2032. 12 years after the Great Undead Reckoning.
Objective: Reach the Caucasus Mountains in 1 year with a certain package.
Exposition:

The year is 2032, 12 Years after Patient 0 first appeared. The Great Undead Reckoning swept through the whole of Europe, annihilating the human population and destroying modern civilisation as we know it. The "Zombie Plague" as it became to be known, soon spread beyond Europe, infection the whole world as it spiraled out of control. Governments, scientists, and organisations all worked to combat the Zombie threat, to no avail. Millions died as they fought vainly to halt their inevitable demise. Humanity bordered on extinction.[/b]

In a stroke of what some would consider genius, others desperation, the Great Powers of Europe formulated a plan to save the few that they could and survive. The plan was called Operation Salvation. High in the great European Mountains, great fortresses and complexes were hastily assembled to facilitate Human survival, rehabilitation of the Earth, research into the so-called "Zombie Plague, and ultimately the Salvation of all of Humanity.

It is in one of these great complexes where you have survived the Great Undead Reckoning. Your well-to-do complex is hidden deep in the Pyrenees, where life went on as normal as it possibly could during an apocalypse. People lived with the threat of the Undead on their minds at all times, but people soon learned to live with the threat and became comfortable. Too comfortable. Research into the virus soon ground to a halt, and the people became less interested with Salvation and more with Survival. Society in your Pyrenees Complex, called C-3, soon returned to it's Pre-Reckoning state. Politics was reformed, factions established, a tiny micro-settlement in a sea of Undead Landscape.

All of this is about to change.

Rules

1. Do not troll. Just don't.
2. Please stay in character when doing Dialogue. Use //OOC: under your action/dialogue if you want to post out of character.
3. If you have a complaint or wish to challenge an outcome please PM the Game Master in FSE; players who troll/complain may be kicked out.
4. Please keep characters believable for the setting. Any Players with Characters that are too trolly / OP may be asked to politely change them.
5. Please only do 1 post for your character during Action Turns. Putting dialogue with an action but clearly separating them with a header is perfectly fine.
6. Do not change/edit your post frequently. It will make things harder for everyone.
6. Have fun: if you have any suggestions feel free to post on the Forum Games OOC Thread or send the Game Master a PM.


Actions, Secret Actions, Dialogue, and Turns

Any actions taken on the game thread are considered public actions and open for all to see. Usually these reactions, dialogue, trading, combat, and skill actions like scavenging. There are times however, when certain players may be forced into situations where their actions are concealed to the rest of the party. These are called Secret Actions.

Secret Actions will be taken when either:
1: The Player is far from the group, alone, or otherwise cut off from direct communication.
2: The Player wishes to sneakily do something they may/may not be allowed to do. (Like stealing, planting, eavesdropping)

All Secret Actions must be PM'ed to the Game Master for them to take effect.

Upon receiving the PM, the GM will do a dice roll, taking into account the character's Agility or Perception (Depending on the action) and the "opponent's" Perception. Whether or not the action succeeds, the GM will send a reply to the secret action sender unless the action is a critical failure, in which the result will be made public.

Dialogue
Dialogue is simply talking between Player Characters in-game. Unless indicated by the Game Master, Dialogue does not count as an action by players. Anybody can speak at any time unless the situation does not allow it, ie people are split up. Acquisition of some items however, like radios, can negate that albeit with some consequences if one isn't careful...

Dialogue inside The Bus takes up no actions unless it is during Action Turns.


Action Turns
There are some situations where all Players will get a limited time to react to a certain threat, obstacle, enemy, or another otherwise obstructive thing. The Game Master will make it clear when this is the case, and will emplace a "time limit" by way of Action Turns. Usually maximum of 4 Action turns, these are very similar to the way Roll-To-Dodge does their actions. Each player submits one action, and the Game Master will dice roll for every action + stats of every character and divulge the results. Action Turn limits vary depending on the situation.

Example of Action Turn
Suddenly Player 1 accidentally drops a glass bottle, cringing in terror as the loud shatter reveals their position amid the monstrous horde of undead.

Action Turns: 1!

Volk immediately gets up and runs for the Bus.
Player 2 immediately gets up and starts running. Disoriented and paniced, Player 2 runs down the street into another large horde, alerting a second horde to their location.

Action Turns: 0!

Both hordes stagger towards the Bus. Volk quickly shuts the door as the driver hastily starts up the engine and begins picking up speed. Player 2, panicked, begins shooting blindly into the crowd until he is mobbed by Undead. The Bus drives away safely.

Player 2 has died!

Character Bio:
The story begins when I was a little girl, the other children would pick on me because I had crooked teeth (I mean serious hillbilly level crookedness). They would make fun of me on a regular basis, and when I tried to walk away they would chase me chanting "HillBailey! HillBailey show us your tee-eeth". Once I tried real hard to lose them, but in my haste I neglected to notice a bush of roses in my path, and inevitably crashed into it. I was wounded quite lightly, but the pain was unbearable for 4 year old me. I decided no more, they will not do this to me any more, I waited until my wounds closed, meanwhile having my mother teach me how to patch up wounds, and started running for exercise. I ran and ran, until they were no match for me. Soon enough my mother signed me up for children's running competitions, which I never won, but got fairly close to winning a few times. I stopped running competitively at 12, because I started middle-school and had no time to compete. Only then did I realize my foolishness, I did not address the main issue, my teeth were still crooked! And so I begged my mum and dad to pay for my braces and eventually they succumbed to my endless nagging. I understood I needed to help my teeth become healthy and normal, so I started taking great care of them; never opened anything with my teeth, brushed them 4 times a day and mainly stayed off of the sweets. My time in middle school was pretty normal, but there were rumors of a fast spreading virus that makes you so angry you try to attack everyone with murderous intent, I thought it was just meant to scare us (foolish me). During high school it was discovered that the rumors were true, actual zombies roamed the earth! And apparently the efforts to stop them were to no avail. My parents and I boarded up the house, and we and the rest of the town's people set up a fence surrounding the town, I stopped running outside at night, I only did so during the day, so that I won't be jumped by a zombie. It was right when I finished high school that we heard they were taking people to gigantic complexes, to ensure their survival. We were taken in the second bus that reached our town, we took a few essentials and went on our way. The idea of the complex was very reassuring and helped calm people's nerves. It didn't feel like we were on lockdown, it felt just like living in the mountains. Soon enough the panic calmed down completely and a normal society was led in the complex. I found a job as a cashier at the local supermarket, they give me a discount on most products so it's a nice job. I took the bus to get to an open field, as I usually do, in order to run in the fresh air, and that is where our story continues.
Starting Kit:
Clothing: 1 black wool beanie hat, 1 light blue dri fit shirt, 1 dark blue pair of sweatpants, 1 white and red striped sweat band on my left arm, 1 black scrunchie holding my hair, 1 pair of blue moving comfort underwear, 1 pair of white knee socks, 1 pair of running shoes, 1 Heart-rate tracking watch on right arm.
Bag: Running fitted backpack, red of colour.
Items: Oral hygiene set (a box containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and a small plastic cup), 4 Liter water bag (fitted into a specially designed compartment of the bag), small first aid kit (including needle, thread, gauze, 200mL rubbing alcohol, 7 band aids, bandage and tweezers), 4 granola bars, wallet (containing 2 bills and 2 coins adding up to a total of 20.51£).

He uses his gifts to cruelly manipulate and corrupt others, often with no apparent end other than to cause suffering and destruction. His original goal, as he stated when he was young, is to be the last one standing at the end of the world. He has the most perfect, ideal, healthiest, & prime physical conditions, he possesses incredible pheromones, he is "well-endowed", handsome, attractive, has the most flawless face & body a man can have. Character Bio (Optional): He had an okay life, as his uncle was very rich and provided them with a lot of money so they could live. But when Mr Wolfendale was just 5 years old, his parents died, so he went to live with his uncle. His uncle offered a lot of money, but he declined and lead a normal life. He graduated from school with terrible grades, but applied for the army as soon as he could. He joined the army when he was 18, and after 10 years of fighting he came out to see his uncle, and is currently on a bus back to his home-town...

Character Bio (Optional):
The zombie apocalypse broke out when John was only 9 years old, luckily his father was a renowned military officer which
secured him his position in the facility. Even though John's father saw the horrors of the apocalypse when he was out fighting the hordes, John never did.
John was safely locked away in the facility and when defeat was certain John's dad returned.

The life in the facility was of course a bit different for John than how life on the outside was.
Now he had no tv, no fancy meals, no video games and barely any toys.
John was a spoiled child for sure, but he could get over all these materialistic things the loss of his friends & relatives where a lot worse.

After sometime the facility opened a school for the children John not very good at school except the new subjects survival, combat etc.
Since his dad regularly trained him, nagging about how horrifying the outside world was.
Which John never seemed to understand, he would soon though.

After John finished school he was assigned to the facilities defense force, this meant that he had to protect the facility and scavenge for items/food in the outside world.
In one of John's scavenging runs his partner got pinned down by tens of zombies. John desperately tried to reach his partner fending of several zombies in the process. Son the screams for help changed from screams for help to scream of terror and agony. When John finally reached his partner the screams of agony had long stopped.
What John found was a pile of bones and flesh.

John kept going on runs but his personality changed after this, he became more drawn back and he finally understood what his dad had been nagging on about all these years.

Starting Kit: Old German military uniform, assault rifle, binoculars, canteen, med kit and a small axe.

Intelligence: 3 - Not dumb just not very good in school.
Agility: 8 - His dad taught him how to sneak shoot and survive.

Character Bio (Optional): Lisa and  her brother, Marc lived within the mountains of Pyrenees, under the roof of their neglectful parents; their father being an abusive alcoholic and their mother being both that and a chain-smoker. When Lisa was old enough to ride a bicycle, they lost their mother to a house fire that had been caused by her cigarette when she was asleep (or possibly drunk in bed). Marc was at least 12 years old when their mother died, as he was in juvenile detention at the time. Marc raised Lisa to share his beliefs and be tough like a grown man. However, he too was often absent from Lisa's life; part of that had to do with the fact that he was frequently in juvenile institutions. This led to Lisa having to frequently fend for herself. When Marc was around, he taught Lisa how to hunt and use a bow. Once, after their mother's death, but before Lisa reached age 12, she got lost in the woods for nine full days and lived off of wild berries and used poison oak as a substitute for toilet paper. Marc was again in juvenile detention (so he was 19 years old). When Lisa managed to find her way home, her father had not noticed her absence. She walked in through the back door and then made herself a sandwich. Both Lisa and Marc were physically abused by their father. Lisa has grown to be tough on the outside, but inside she is selfless and caring for other people. However, this side is rarely shown. Lisa works better when she is alone.

Appearance & Build (Picture Optional):  Vas is a very burly man, coming in at around 6'4" with graying hair and light blue eyes. His body is in fantastic condition for his age suggesting a very rigorous lifestyle.
Character Bio (Optional): Not much is known about Vasili, he has lived a very tragic life, with many hardships and challenges. He occasionally mumbles to himself and has lost a portion of his sanity or at the very least that is what it appears to the others.
Vasili is apparently a Don Cossack, or at the very least looks and acts like one. He first appeared randomly around C-3, helping the scavengers during their treks around the Undead Wastes. Since then he has formed a… “cooperative” relationship with C-3, albeit having never actually lived or worked in the complex. He is currently freelancing for who knows what reason.

The wolves, coyotes, and cougars of Michigan helped, but after being stuck in Europe after supporting his brother who partook in the Tour de France, he's become an expert at hiding, running from, avoiding, and maneuvering around the infected.
Starting Kit: A North Face jacket, flannel shirt, beanie hat, blue jeans, and old chucks. Hiker's bag/backpack with a mostly full bottle of ibuprofen, a toy pistol (looks real), pair of new but broken-in climbing shoes, a Swiss army knife, and 30ft of lightweight rope.

Starting Kit: A Lakers Basketball Jersey, black athletic Nike shorts, and some fresh J's he recently received from his wife for his birthday, his over the shoulder gym bag, his gym key, a protein bar, a gallon of water and Gatorade, and his wallet.

Appearance & Build (Picture Optional): Average length, short blond-brown hair
Character Bio (Optional): Breerink doesn't really know why he survived. He just did. His family was just lucky, he always assumed, managing to get out of the Netherlands, into France, and eventually into this base. Most of his family didn't make it though, and his last-remaining relative died a few years ago.

Breeking soon realized that fighting the infected or handling a gun wasn't meant for him. Oh, he did, but only if there were no alternatives. As life started to take shape and a community started to come to be, he simply became an administrator. He planned, he organized, he did whatever he could do to make life better for the people. Without having to set a foot out of the compound, that is. And when politics took shape, he soon followed, joining a faction. He aligned himself with the progressive faction, advocating trying to expand this community and make contact with others. He ran for low offices a few times, even won a term, but his lack of 'outside' experience has stranded him, and he hasn't held office in a few years.

He decided to join this mission, not only to bring his believes into practice, but also show that he meant what he said. Maybe that would get him back into office, in a position to change this community. Though, just plain curiosity for what's in the Caucasus might also have something to do with it.


Starting Kit: Dutch camo trousers, thick brown leather jacket with sheepskin lining, army boots. Civilian backpack. Small machete, Beretta 92, compass, some canned food, and cooking pan.

1 Major Skill: Planning and organizing. You don't get higher up the food chain without knowing how to read a map or draw a roster.
2 Minor Skills: - Speaks simple conversational Russian
- Took classes in basic survival skills - knows eatable plants, can start a fire, basic stuff.
Attributes: Base Stats + 5 Skill points you can add. You can also take away Skill points and shuffle them to other Skills, like in Fallout!

Appearance & Build (Picture Optional): Dark shades, bandana and a black cap. He has brown hair from what you can see. He's quite muscular but not too muscular, can handle himself in a fight.

Character Bio (Optional): He had an okay life, as his uncle was very rich and provided them with a lot of money so they could live. But when Mr Wolfendale was just 5 years old, his parents died, so he went to live with his uncle. His uncle offered a lot of money, but he declined and lead a normal life. He graduated from school with terrible grades, but applied for the army as soon as he could. He joined the army when he was 18, and after 10 years of fighting he came out to see his uncle, and is currently on a bus back to his home-town...
