Nah you can get addicted to weed, have seen plenty buy an eighth every day then switch over to doing multiple lines of coke a day.  Unless you mean addiction as in a necessity to smoke, where there are no withdrawal symptoms if you stop smoking weed

I'm sort of curious as to whether all the legalization will lead to more abuse problems. Naturally I want to say yes but I wonder if legalizing will also help stop the mass incarcerations that persist today.

If the West enforced its drug laws, as they do in Japan especially but also elsewhere in Asia, then you wouldn't have such high usage rates and the associated social problems. Indulging drug users is treating the symptom not the cause, and in fact makes it worse since there's then little deterrence for people to start in the first place. On a side note I would urge anyone here smoking weed to stop-the evidence is piling up that it significantly raises the risk of developing serious mental health problems.

Close friend smoked weed for 8 months straight. He told me after a while, he starting losing small memories, finding himself in strange places, not being able to think clearly, etc. Prolonged use can actually get quite bad for you.

I am addicted to caffeine as well. I don't really have a problem with it. I need coffee every morning or I don't feel right.

I'm not the one who brought up weed. As far as I'm concerned, weed hasn't killed anyone so it isn't anywhere near as bad as things like alcohol or cigarettes which are slow killers, however that is just my opinion and I didn't start this thread as a debate thread over the merits of marijuana.

This isn't a weed thread, this is an addiction and drug abuse thread. You can talk about weed but only in the context of addiction or drug abuse. Keep it topical guys, I don't really want this thread to become a cesspool of weed memes or arguments about whether it should be legalized, that's not the point of this thread.

Is porn addiction a thing?

In my opinion, addiction is caused by a need to cope and if porn is your way of coping then i guess so. There are chemical reasons for addiction as well but I do genuinely believe that an argument can be made that video games and porn can become actual addictions.

I've smoked my fair share of weed, I get a craving for it now and again but if I cant get it ill buy a bottle of coke (cold) tip for any of you younglings invest in a good grinder that allows the reclaim to fall through 60% usually gets stuck in the twisty bits and thats no good. You can always smoke the reclaim with tobacco.

Coke is boring, if you have a bad heart dont do it. If you're on a night out it just restores your stamina bar.

I've known a couple people with severe gambling addictions. One of whom was found by their parents on a park bench in Waterloo (Canada) having blown half their school money. Havent seen too much in the way of drug addiction fortunately. One guy I met in university had a definite drinking problem. Was in the room beside mine, kept pretty much a fully loaded bar fridge at all time and was cleaning out bottles of grey goose and/or jack daniels just about daily. Have no idea how he was affording it.

I'm surrounded by gambling addicts where I work (casino) and I deal with them directly. I still don't know how i really feel about being the one who actually takes the money from them. As for alcohol addicts, I've heard of people borrowing money from friends and family to buy it, pawning some of there stuff, buying cheaper alcohol, ect. People will go above and beyond for that stuff.

Dont be hard on yourself for it, just remember two things:

1) The majority are just people enjoying it casually/having a good time.

2) The ones who are addicted would find other ways to gamble if you werent serving them anyway, at least you can provide a safe, fair, and legal service and hope they get help for their issues.
