Teams & Scenario details NOT Updated!

Napoleon's invasion of Russia on 24th June 1812 saw a staggering 860,000 strong force strike towards Moscow, consisting of French troops and their numerous allies. Early Success is soon whittled away by a lack of supplies for the French force, the Russians depriving the land of resources as it retired deeper into Russia. The French must gain a decisive victory over the Russian army; this coupled with capturing Moscow may force the Tsar to sue for peace...

The 33rd Regiment of Foot is proud to Host our Historical Event, taking place once per month at 7:00UK lasting until 8:00UK. Events will present a different scenario each week, consisting of 4 Rounds across various custom maps and include predominantly Flag-Spawning rounds. Sign ups will be made on this forum however the final confirmation of attendance and distribution of the password will be handled on steam, therefore it is essential that you Add [33rd]Kincaid on Steam!

Waiting List:

Classes - Lines, Cavalry
Normal Flag-Spawning Round - reduce enemy tickets to 0.

Bagration's corps fortunately occupies Smolensk a few days prior and is able to stall the French advance in the suburbs of the City...

After constant retreat, Kutuzov is re-appointed as commander of the Russian army, and prepares for one defensive action close to Moscow. A series of redoubts are hastily constructed to anchor the Russian line, the most imposing of these situated at Raevsky's position on the Russian right flank, dominating the heights above Borodino. This position must be held, or the entire Russian line of defence will become untenable...

As the struggle for the Raevsky redoubt rages on the Russian right, Davout hits their centre in force, supported by Desaix, Ney and Murat. Stage 4 | Borodino, Utitsa
Classes - Lights
Normal Flag-Spawning Round - reduce enemy tickets to 0.
Hoping to turn the Russian left flank, Polish troops under Poniatowski move against the village of Utitsa to the south. The surrounding terrain however is difficult; surrounding brushland and woods are populated with large numbers of Russian light infantry. Poniatowski sends forward his own skirmishers to flush out the Russians swiftly. If the Polish cannot make progress in this sector of the field, then their contribution to the battle raging to the north will be non-existant...

Please note that this Event makes use of Server-side scripts which alter the appearance/equipment of some units, so as a result some client-side mods might not work as intended!

Line Infantry: 10+
May not FiC/RiC.
Must use double rank & column if 8 or more men.
May use 1-man spacing if in double rank.
May have the front rank crouch.
Must maintain formation when maneuvering & firing.
After dropping below 5 players must join another line unless still in charge.

Cavalry: 10-15
Must stay in formation unless in charge.
May stay mounted during all charge, if a round has dragged on excessively however then the admin may order individuals or groups to dismount.
After dropping below 5 players, all must dismount and join a line unless still in charge.

Round specific Rules:
This event has recently started integrating the popular Flag-Spawning scripts which are still relatively new to the community, for details on how these work in practice see this thread here We will often use this gamemode with a few changes to play out a certain scenario, any changes detailed in the round descriptions at the top of this thread. Some of these changes may include:

Siege-like Rounds with no actual capture flag (aim of the mode is still to reduce enemy tickets to 0) but still played on a fortified map, FiC and RiC will likely be permitted on these rounds.

Admin Controlled Rounds will likely transition into a normal round after a certain point, setting up a particular round in to a certain situation before handing over control back to the individual regiments.

Objective Rounds may offer some other form of victory to each team other than purely reducing the enemy teams tickets to 0, such as obstructing the other team from reaching a location based goal or by breaking an enemy formation such as a square.

Training & Dismissals Rules:
(up to 30mins before and after the Event an encampment map is set on the server for all Regiments to use)
This map has several distinct areas:
1x Spawn
1x Parade square
1x Cavalry practice course
1x Manouver field
12x Regiment tent-lines
6x groupfighting arenas

Do not kill players in the Spawn area.
Each Regiment has a tent line assigned to them (ask the organiser if unsure); members may do what they wish here.
All areas aside from the Spawn & Tent-lines are to be used for Drill, Groupfighting or Cavalry practice.
Areas are used on a first come first served basis; do not intefere with other regiments if they are occupying an area unless previously arranged with that regiment.

(1798) - Egyptian Campaign

Having seen the benefits of Britain's profitable colonies, France's Directory listened to Bonaparte's idea to invade Egypt; expelling the ruling Mamelukes and establishing a modern style of government sympathetic to France would strengthen their trade and weaken Britains position. Early success however against the Mameluke dynsaty was overshadowed by the defeat of the French fleet at the hands of Nelson. After a relatively short period of occupation the French forces were eventually forced to leave for good with British forces landing and laying siege to Alexandria.

Stage 2 | Alexandria, first offensive
Classes - Lines, Lights, Cavalry
Flag-Spawning round, Admin Controlled to start, then reduce enemy tickets to 0.
To start France & UK remain at spawn. UK regiments selected for picket (sentry) duty move out to the picket line (marked by line of rough rocks across the map). After 2 mins (admin notified) France may move out and begin their attack. UK can only move out when the French team is discovered - France should coordinate an attack together or try to move round the picket to surprise the main team. Regiments on picket can spread out and fire one shot on sighting the enemy, then return to their unit. Once the French attack has been discovered proceed with normal round and rules.

Having successfully landed, the British press on towards Alexandria. The French however seize the initiative and commence their own attack in one final pitched battle, the offensive hitting home in the early hours of 21st March. A confused fight ensues in the darkness as the French offensive primarily engages the British center in force, attempting to drive a wedge here and sever the British line in two. The British pickets are pushed unexpectedly at 3am as the French offensive begins...

Stage 4 | Stand fast 28th
Classes - Line, Cavalry
Objective based Flag-Spawning Battle round - UK form 2 ranks at spawn and hold their position, teams win by reducing enemy tickets to 0. High flag capture cost so capturing these should be a French priority (2 UK flags). French cavalry choose your class but bear in mind that if you share it with another regiment you must wait for all of the class to die before you will respawn.
With the battle in the ruins to the rear still raging, the British right flank finds itself momentarily cut-off from the rest of the British line and threatened from both front and rear; the 28th Foot, strung out in a two rank-deep line, famously give the order for the front rank to stay as they are and the rear to about face! The regiment fights back-to-back for its very survival as the French relentlessly engage their position...

Stage 1 | Battle of Shubra Khit | Battle
Classes - Lines, Lights, Cavalry
Normal Battle
This was the first major engagement of the campaign. On their march to Cairo, the French army encountered an Ottoman army consisting of Mamluk cavalry and drafted Fellahins under Murad Bey. Napoleon lined his forces up into infantry squares, a tactic which helped repel the Mamluk cavalry, largely due to their inability to penetrate them without suffering severe casualties. A naval battle also occurred, with an Ottoman flotilla being repelled by a French flotilla.

Classes - Lines, Cavalry
Hold the Square - France have 2 minutes to form square, from 8:00 the Mamluks may charge (unlimited lives). Each Regiment on France may take 1 gunner and share the atillery at the squares corners.
The most iconic battle of the entire campaign, the battle of the Pyramids took place actually quite far away from the Pyramids but they were faintly visible in the distance, thus Napoléon used this oppurtunity to name the battle after them, for it to be more memorable and to have greater gravitas. The battle can be easily explained as the French formed divisional squares, supplies in the middle of them and artillery pieces at the corners.

"The unexampled series of our naval triumphs has received fresh splendour from the memorable and decisive action, in which a detachment of my fleet, under the command of Rear-Admiral Lord Nelson, attacked, and almost totally destroyed a superior force of the enemy, strengthened by every advantage of situation." These were the words of King George III when addressing the parliament when finding out about the battle. The battle was brutal and almost completely destroyed the French navy (only a few ships managed to escape, one of which was commanded by Villeneuve). In the end, the battle proved to be a decisive factor in the French campaign as with no route to France meant no supplies or fresh troops.

(1805) - Battle of Austerlitz

The Battle of Austerlitz can be considered one of the most decisive engagements of the Napoleonic era; The Grande Armee isolated at the full extent of its lines of communication with an array of forces opposing with superior numbers. At Austerlitz Napoleon tempted the combined Austrian and Russian army into attacking before they could be reinforced and despite their inferiority in numbers Napoleon claimed a Decisive Victory. In essence this was gained by the allied army over extending itself to engage the flanks of the French force, which then in turn struck hard in the allied centre and severed the combined Russian and Austrian army in to. The battle therefore represents not only a success against a force that was numerically superior but also a triumph in which some 36,000 allied soldier were captured, wounded or killed.

(1806) - Prussian Campaign

Where - 33rd_Prussian_Campaign_1806!

Napoleon's campaign against the Prussians in 1806 represented the first half of the war of the fourth coalition, formed against France shortly after the third coalitions' defeat at Austerlitz in 1805. Prussia eagerly declares war before either of its coalition partners has time to come to their aid, so in October Napoleon launches the Grande Armee across the Saxon border towards Berlin. Due to the haste of the invasion, intelligence on the Prussian army whereabouts is scarce; The French advance with all their corps within a days march of each other, to seek out the enemy and defeat in detail. The Prussian army is of a significant size but is plagued by outdated organisation and aging commanders, how will the legacy of Fredrick the Great stand up to the modernised Grande Armee...

Marshal Lannes swiftly takes advantage of the relatively minor force occupying the ground and attacks the enemy positions from all sides...

(1807) - Battle of Eylau

In late 1806 The Grande armee settled in for winter quarters in occupied Poland, after dealing a severe blow to the Prussian forces at Jena/Auerstadt. The new Campaign in 1807 however began early in January, with the Russians under Bennigsen attempting to turn the French left wing; after some manoeuvring however the multitude of French corps force the combined Prussian and Russian forces to withdraw to the North East. In early February with all his forces finally concentrated, Benngisen decides to make a stand at the town of Eylau. Napoleon confidently pursues on all fronts, with his army corps spread out - potentially too far to support each other. This later develops into the ultimate decider for one of the most bloodiest of battles of the Napoleonic Wars.

Stage 6 | Murat's cavalry charge | Battle
Classes - Lines, Cavalry
Admin controlled round, Russia form 2 ranks along the road and France await direction by an admin.
With the French centre now as frail as ever and Ney’s corps not yet arrived, the situation for Napoleon looks dire indeed. It is at this point that a fresh Prussian corps now arrives on the field to support the Russian troops, leaving the fate of the battle in little doubt. However Napoleon now famously commits his final reserve; 11,000 cavalry under Marshal Murat to hammer the allied centre hard and buy him time for Ney and Davout’s corps to deploy on the field. Will the best cavalry France has to offer, seated on the best steeds in Europe be enough to stall the overwhelming allied forces...

(1807) - Battle of Friedland
(1807) - Battle of Friedland
06/11/2019
Teams Updated!

Having fought eachother to a stalemate at Eylau, both the Allied and French armies spend the next few months attempting to out manouver one another, the campaign dragging on into early summer. On 13th June however Bennigsen's main russian force on its way north to regroup with their Prussian counterparts, encounters a single isolated French corps under Marshal Lannes. This could be the oppurtunity the Russians have been waiting for; a chance to knock-out 16,000 men from Napoleons Grand Armee, to even the odds when Bennigsen is forced to once again face the French Emperor in the field. Engaging the corps could prove extremely risky, the Russians having to cross a river which should they be engaged more heavily may prove their downfall...

Event Stages:

Stage 1 | Marshal Lannes' Delaying action | Admin
Classes - Line, Lights
Admin controlled battle; both teams lines form up together in spawn facing the river. Lights of both team skirmish forward to the middle of the map. When the Russians advance the French lights will fire and retreat, eventually all lights reforming on their respective lines.
Having committed to engaging the French corps on the other side of the river Lava, the Russians construct pontoon bridges and make their crossing late in the day of the 13th June. Marshal Lannes outnumbered almost 3 to 1 fights a delaying action from the towns of Friedland to Posthenen, using his light infantry to screen his movements and harass the advancing Russians...

Stage 5 | The Retreat | Battle
Classes - Lines, Lights, Cavalry
Normal Battle
By mid-afternoon the situation for the Russians  turns sour as additional French corps arrive on the field, the Emperor himself amongst them. In the matter of just a few hours the Russian army find itself outnumbered on all fronts, with the river Lava to their backs. Acknowleging the immediate danger, Bennigsen orders a gradual retreat back through Friedland and across the pontoon bridges, slowly pulling back his line of defence. Napoleon wastes no time in ordering an all-out offensive on every inch of the Russian position. With lightning speed the resolve of the Russian troops begins to waver as the well-ordered retreat begins to turn into a rout. With Friedland set ablaze by canon fire, the Russian imperial guard maintain a rear-guard, delaying the French onslaught and attempting to ensure their armies survival...

(1808) - Retreat to Coruna

Sir John Moore assumed command of the British Army in October 1808 and led it across Portugal and Spain, to link up with his Spanish allies to commence a campaign against his better wishes. At much the same time Napoleon arrived in the Peninsula at the head of 125,000 battle hardened veterans. Having restored his brother back on the Spanish throne, Napoleon turns his attention to remove Moore’s army. With his lines of communication compromised, Moore is forced to retreat in the dead of winter over the inhospitable Galician mountains, his army fighting tenacious rear-guard actions to facilitate their escape to Coruna where they finally turn to face the French.

Despite a British victory Moore discovers Napoleon closing in so retreats towards the coast via Benavente. A sizeable French cavalry division of 3 squadrons crosses the river Elsa and threatens Lord Paget's rear-guard...

(1811) - Battle of Albuera
While Wellington is engaged with Marshal Massena at Fuentes de Oñoro, Marshal Beresford lays siege to the fortified border city of Badajoz in the south, with support from Spanish General Blake. In early May 1811, Marshal Soult marches north from Seville with his Army of Andalusia, to relieve the French garrison at Badajoz. Beresford and Blake agree to confront Soult at Albuera, a defensive ridge position. Soult presses his march with all speed, intending to catch Beresford before he can concentrate his troops to oppose him. On 15th May 1811, Beresford issues his orders for the army to concentrate on the Albuera position, Spanish troops arriving on the morning of the 16th, just as Marshal Soult prepares his attack...

Event Stages:

Stage 1 | Diversionary Attack
Classes - Line, Cavalry
Normal Flag-Spawning Round - reduce enemy tickets to 0.
Beresford places his army on the ridge, expecting to receive a frontal assault across the river and through the village of Albuera. Soult begins the Battle with a diversionary action across the bridges, engaging Alten's brigade on the morning of the 16th. Soult hopes to draw more troops to this sector, making way for his flanking attack to the south...

Colborne's Brigade is all but destoryed by cavalry, losing 5 standards. The Spanish divisions atop the heights also begin to break and run. Fortunately for the Allies more British divisions gradually arrive from the centre to shore up the line. The resulting exchange of fire lasts for hours with neither side giving an inch, inflicting awful casualties upon both sides. At this crucial point in the battle Cole arrives with his division from the road to Badajoz, sending his mix of British and Portuguese troops against the French left. Will this be enough to break the stalemate and drive the Soult's army from the field...

Peninsular Campaign (1809-11)
06/02/2019

It’s the summer of 1809 on the Portuguese border and the Anglo-Portuguese army under Sir Arthur Wellesley has just repelled a French invasion into Portugal by Marshal Soult. Hoping to take the initiative and potentially gain a swift victory, Wellesley advances into Spain at the head of 20,000 men. He hopes to link up with some 30,000 Spanish troops under General Cuesta, a combined force that may prove able to force its way through French Marshal Victor’s 46,000 and capture the Spanish capital of Madrid...

Ruffin’s gamble pays off, forcing some Kings German Legion troops off the heights. British divisional commander Hill quickly recognises the danger, swiftly moving to counter attack and re-take the heights…

Soult is expelled from Portugal a second time at the Lines of Torres Vedras, permitting a second allied offensive in 1811.

On his second attempt at success in Spain, Wellesley moves to capture the fortified city of Almeida. French Marshal Massena moves to relieve the garrison and encounters the British in a defensive position, centred around the village of Fuentes De Onoro. Most of the days battle is spent by the French attacking the village, however a large-scale flank engagement on the British right is almost disastrous; The Light Division narrowly rescues the battered 7th Division, exectuing a fighting retreat against thousands of French cavalry...

Peninsular Campaign (1812)
20/02/2019

With the turn of the new year in January 1812, Sir Arthur Wellesley and his Anglo-Portuguese army turn their attention to capturing the keys to Spain; These fortified cities of Cuidad Rodrigo and Badajoz must be captured to remove the thread of a renewed invasion of Portugal. With or without the capture of these fortresses, there are still sizeable French army corps mustering in Spain which will need to be engaged with care. Will this years campaign see an end to French interests in Portugal or even Spain itself?

(1813) - Battle of Leipzig

It's mid-1813 and the Emperor Napoleon has re-built in part his Grande Armee, after the disastrous results of the Russian campaign last year. With all of Europe arrayed against him, Napoleon intends to knock-out one of the main powers to even the odds and potentially gain a temporary peace to buy him time to consolidate his position. After three months of campaigning in German territory mixed with meagre victories and defeats, The French make a stand around the city of Leipzig. Napoleon has chosen his ground well with the areas surrounding Leipzig split into multiple sectors by many rivers with bridges connecting these areas close to the city, giving the French superiority to manoeuvre. The allies do however outnumber the French by a huge margin and almost completely encircle their force around Leipzig; will the allies work together effectively and defeat the once master of Europe or will history repeat itself with the 'Little Corporal' defeating the two Allied Emperor's again, as he did 8 years before?

(1854-1855) - Crimean War

The Crimean War was the first grand scale European conflict since the Battle of Waterloo, some 39 years earlier. The Russian empire ever looking to expand its borders, declared war on Turkey and both the empires of Britain and France swiftly moved to support the Turks. By the time British and French troops reached Constantinople however the invasion had largely stalled and was doomed to failure. Undeterred both forces continued in to Russian occupied territory in the Crimea. The series of actions that followed demonstrated both the valour of the common soldier and the incompetence of their superiors in command, whose knowledge of warfare was still firmly rooted in the Napoleonic period; a taste of the grand scale slaughter which would occur a decade later in the American civil war took place on the Crimean peninsular in this futile conflict.

Admin Controlled to Start, then Normal Siege - Russia have 4 Lives

The British must push through up the hill and rout the Russian defenders or the invasion is over before it has even begun. The Russians, though outnumbered, have the tactical advantage and will make the Allied force pay a bloody price for landing in the Crimea...

Normal Siege
Russia's primary port on the Black Sea has been under siege for almost 12 months. Cut off from the rest of the Russian army, the 50,000 defenders have turned Sevastopol into an impregnable fortress. With the port blocked by the British navy, Russian naval crews have been drafted into the defence of the fortress. Repeated British, French and Turkish assaults have been held off but with no hope of relief how much longer will the defenders hold out? The British and French have been worn down by cold and disease in the foreign climate but are now emboldened by fresh troops from the homelands and Sardinia's recent involvement in the war. This will be the last great showdown in the Crimean war.

Now that this Event is most definitely going to be continued monthly, We will update this thread as opposed to creating a new one every time. We will no doubt re-visit past events we have done so keep an eye out for when the First post changes, displaying what Scenario will be played next.

April's event will focus on the Peninsular war, between 1810 and 1812.

As usual we give first dibs to those regiments currently attending our Wednesday Conquest event, then apps open up on here. Feel free to post a sign-up to be first in line.
