History
The regiment has three separate histories. The first time the regiment was raised was in 1756 formed by the redesignation of the 2nd Battalion, 34th Regiment of Foot . It had a short service mainly in Ireland before being disbanded in 1763 when it became a Regiment of Invalids and finally disbanded in 1769.
The second is as the 1st Battalion 73rd (Highland) Regiment of Foot (MacLeod's Highlanders) which was raised in 1777 in Scotland . A second battalion was raised in 1778. The regiment served in Gambia in West Africa in 1779 and in the Second Anglo-Mysore War from 1780 where they served alongside the 2nd/42nd Highlanders who would become the future 73rd Foot. In 1786 the MacLeod's Highlanders became the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot (MacLeod's Highlanders) which would eventually become the Highland Light Infantry .
Battles:
In the Siege of Seringapatam 5 April – 4 May 1799, the 73rd, along with the 74th, were some of the first men to clamber up the breach and storm the defenses to win a well earned victory!
At the Battle of Quatre Bras, the 73rd were intercepted by French Cuirassiers and were forced to retreat to a wooded area. After the men were rallied, they bravely routed the Cuirassiers with musket fire. With the help of artillery, the Frenchies had no option but to run away in a humiliating defeat.
At Waterloo, the 73rd took ferocious artillery fire, so much so, they had to form up with the 30th regiment to form an effective square to hold off the cavalry.
About Us
We are a very active Napoloenic wars regiment who participate in daily linebattles and train three times a week. The regiment prides itself on its upmost discipline and it's ability to have fun as a community.
Rules
Members must try to be as active as possible. This will make it more fun for you and will make a better impression of the regiment in the community as well as maintaining the cohesion of the unit.
Any absences must be documented in the Leave of Absence - Inform an officer.
No racist remarks. We enforce this rule as law. Even although this is indeed the internet, the 73rd is completely racist-free, and anyone caught being racist will be punished accordingly.
No trolling. Trolling is not fun, it's simply mindless stupidity. It won't be tolerated.
