Introduction

The passage of time will be handled at the GM's discretion. Events will effect this passing of time heavily.

The following is the explanation of 3 key systems that will govern how event unfold. Remember this is 1444

Religion

Religion was the be all and end all of this time. Religion stated wars and brought about death and destruction. For this role play there are 4 starting religions each with their own small bonuses. All have bonuses in moral against nations of an opposing religion.

Christianity: The predominate religion of western and central Europe.
Orthadox: The church of the eastern and Baltic nations.
Sunni: The main Muslim religion.
Shia: The smallest of the four religions

If your people are of another religion to the crowns then you will need to convert them. To do so you must announce which province you wish to convert and pm the game master highlighting said province. Not all provinces will willingly convert however and you must always be ready for a revolt.

Your people might not like attack another nation of the same religion so be aware of your actions.

The Pope is controlled by the GM and events will be issued through the Pope like excommunication.

Holy Roman Empire

The Holy Roman Empire is a powerful force in Europe and is ruled by the elected Holy Roman Emperor (Austria to begin). There election happen every year and are voted by the elector nations. The electors can change so be aware of your power compared to other nations in the HRE

For wars the HRE is more likely to assist in a defensive war then to aid another nation in an offensive war. Think carefully on your actions.

Nations in the HRE can go to war with one another. However, smaller nation may not like the expiation of another and might form a coalition to halt the rapid advance of another nation.

The HRE's boarders never shrink. They can grow however should the EMPEROR ONLY take a province and add it the the HRE.

Warfare and Governments

Raising troops
Peasants don't like fighting more often then not. Be aware of public moods when raising your troops.

Failing to disbanded your troops before harvest season (August) will effect moral greatly.

You may not raise your levies in the winter!

Mercenaries were a common way of bolstering your forces. However they were not cheap and ill disciplined if they felt they were not going to be payed.               

Standing armies were rare in this time and knights were not common place! Your army will be mostly armed citizens with varying wealth to buy equipment.

War
The players are limited to taking broad strategic decisions to fight their wars. There are a few rules that should be remembered.

Defenders are always at an advantage versus attackers. Using overwhelming numbers or flank maneuvers can change the tide.

Moving your forces around takes time.

Winter warfare was next to impossible. Trying to move forces in the winter will have serious consequences.

Your troops have morale. Making huge tactical mistakes or letting the country fall into destruction will have an effect and you might even find yourself fighting your own citizens.

Some provinces have forts. These take time and effort the siege and will delay matters, but remember disease can spread. You can opt to wait it out or storm. Every day a roll will be made to see if a breach is made, you will be informed if a breach is made via an event.

A peace treaty is a GM controlled event. You are to PM the GM the treaty agreements and the GM will post said agreement, you are not to post it yourself!

Government
Many forms of government were are absolute ie. Kings and Sultans. They can do as they please but for how long will their people stand for it?

Republics and free cities however must elect their leaders. This is a GM controlled event and will govern how your nation conducts itself.

Don’t sign agreements that you will break quickly. Please. Just don’t.

Royal marriages can be used to establish more reliable alliances but are limited to the amount available.

Leaders die in many ways. Please assist the GM by messaging him if you know when you nation leader dies historically.

England and France remain locked in conflict as the rest of Europe watch on. Times are changing and the new ideas that are beginning to surface are ones that question the new order. Will these ideas take route or will the old order hold strong?

1444 January 3rd January County of Holland declares war upon the United Province of Friesland The  Kingdom of Aragon has announce that it will be protecting the island of Rhodes from any aggressors. 5th January The Kingdom of Brandenburg declares War on the Duchy of Mecklenburg Schwerin to expand their power and influence 12th January The Kingdom of Brandenburg form an Alliance with The Kingdom of Bohemia 14th January Scotland orders it's men to begin training it's levies and calls a meetings of it's clan chiefs in mid-winter. The population is displeased 19th January The Kingdom of Brandenburg and the Kingdom of Denmark form an alliance The Knights of St. John step up piracy in the eastern Mediterranean 22nd January Kingdom of Aragon and the Knights of St. John sign a trade agreement. In the evenings these men fill the taverns and brothels of the cities spending their gold. But the alcohol is taking its effect and many nights end in massed brawls between mercenary bands. However these caravans are often under guarded and there have been reports of caravans being attacked by bandits on the Swiss - Dutch Route. Instead of converging on a single location to mass before moving, many lesser armies set of to begin harassing the country side of Mecklenburg. The aim was to draw out the Mecklenburg forces onto a field of their favour before launching a single strike from three sides. The plan was almost flawless. In the early hours of the 21st March the army of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, under the personal command of Duke Heinrich I, arrived at the river crossing at Parchim. Across the river was a small force of Brandenburg drawn up read for battle. Seeing the chance to smash what he thought was the main Brandenburg force Duke Heinrich order an all out attack. Crossing the bridge first were the Knights. Determined to win the field in a single strike the Knights charged head on to the Brandenburg forces. A hail of arrows met them as the begun to attempt to spread out onto the flats before them, cutting down man and horse alike. Disregarding this slaughter the Mecklenburg-Schwerin knights push their mounts onward and charge into front ranks of Brandenburg lines. As the knights begin a vicious drawn out fight with the footmen of Brandenburg before them the men-at-arms and remaining troops begin to flood across the bridge. As they fanned out into their ordered battle lines are war horn sounds on their right flank. The second Brandenburg force who had been waiting for the battle to ensue had marched into position on their foes flank and now charged head long into their exposed flank. Panic gripped the Macklenburg lines and men begun to edge backwards. Soon a full route begun as men streamed back across the bridge. Now the final blow was dealt as the men fleeing across the bridge came face to face with Brandenburg's remaining force. Arrows rained down on the fleeing men on the bridge cutting them to bits. However though the foot and archers of Mecklenburg-Schwerin were crushed their knights continued to charge and retreat, again and again, into the Brandenburg lines cutting swathes of men down. By the time the knights were killed or captured the battlefield lay think with death. Brandenburg had crushed the main army of Mecklenburg-Schwein but at what cost. The Brandenburg army has been severely mauled by this engagement. Scores lay dead to the stoic stand of the knights. However with no army Mecklenburg-Schwein will be forced to sign a peace settlement Roll: 81 - 56 [close] 29th March - 7th February 1444 Battle of Abkhazia - Kingdom of Georgia - Crimean Khanate Using the Crimean passiveness to their advantage, Georgian levies attacked at Abkhazia. Engaging in a bloody sieges across the province, the Crimean defense put up a strong fight. However, it became more and more clear that the Crimeans would not be able to hold back the Georgian onslaught. In the afternoon of 29th March, the main Georgian force approached the port city of Poti. Abkhazian forces lined the walls, notably one of the province's strongholds. However, on the night of 6th February, the Georgian forces mounted their attack on the walls, surprising the defenders. Men, women and children alike in the city were told to surrender or die. Abkhazian forces fell back to the main city keep in a final defense immediately. Soon, however, Georgian levies and knights rushed the keep, slaughtering the poor defenders. The battle was over by sunrise, and would be one of the most decisive victories of the Battle of Abkhazia. The province fell slowly, as Georgian troops push further into the province. The battle was a decisive victory for Georgia.
