Laws on weapons.
« on: April 01, 2013, 11:09:49 pm »
I was just wondering about how the laws on historical weaponry go, and not just in holland over here, but also out there.

In holland, everything before 1870 isnt considered a firearm, though the weapon MUST be produced before 1870, replica's count as firearms, and thus illegal.

Spoiler
quick question to dutch re enectors, how do you aquire one, and are you allowed to fire them, outside re enectment grounds?

Cartridges are considered ammo, though just blackpowder isnt, and only musketballs are illegal as well.

Whats the situation in your country?

Replica's aren't illegal in the NL, they are just hard to import. When you got them imported, things are less difficult. You have to get a two licenses (with an original only 1), but I don't know the details. More importantly, you have to show you have been a member of a living history group for over a year.
I'm still two years away from a musket, and it's not impossible I'll never get one. (Cos I might be going cavalry, in which case I'll have to get a sabre and MAYBE a carbine)

I don't see the problem with having musketballs illegal.

The permit to shoot during big battles is done by the organisers of the event.

Musket-Balls may be illegal on their own, but steel Ball Bearings aren't. They'd probably fly straighter, as well.

In 'Merica, firearms designed to use black powder rather than smokeless are not considered firearms. Thus, so long as you're 18 years of age and have the money, black powder weapons are rather easy to get.

Also, anything manufactured before.. 1899, I think, is considered an antique, thus can bypass the normal firearms laws.

Damn shame there's nothing that can really be done for the Napoleonic Wars here. I mean, there's the War of 1812 stuff, but that's all north of where I am, so it's too far to go.. (My complaints end here, I swear.)

Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.
