American Civil War - Music
« on: November 14, 2012, 01:04:33 pm »
So, I've been thinking, in the Mount and Blade: Warband Napoleonic Wars DLC, it uses music from that era.
Now if the same is going to happen with this new game that has been announced, I don't know. What I would like to know is what was the music composed in America at the time of this new announced game, was it the same? Was it different?
If anybody could point me to an example, thanks. :D

(sorry, no lyrics)

(no lyrics)

(no lyrics)

(not period)

*Many of these songs were sung by both sides, albeit sometimes with different lyrics.
**This list is severely lacking in Union songs at the moment...
***Sadly, many of the instrumental versions are quite short...

Hell on the Wabash, my favorite by far  :-*
Then The Girl I Left Behind Me another good one, I must say, Union is very showy, with beautiful uniforms and music.

Hah! Thank you for that. I was a bit lost in the middle of time periods. Once again, thanks.
I'll leave the thread open for Civil War Music discussion.  :)

I have to say, I like the instrumental songs more than these with lyrics! :)

Sure! :D Yeah, I wish the instrumental versions were more common, they're very hard to find on youtube. Thanks. ;)

Another song to expand your Union list a bit:

Edit: Btw, as far as I know it's not actually period, but...

Edit2: There is also this one:

Why is always left out I'll never know.

Beethoven worked with the tune, it was played by Irish regiments in the Peninsular war and was adopted as the march of the 69th New York and later the 7th Cavalry.

Apparently it was played before both the Charge of the Light Brigade and the Battle of Little-Big-Horn.

He's right, I don't understand why Garryowen was left out...

The Boys That Wore The Green is a very powerful song, I'm glad to see you included that one.
