Psht most of them were early war uniforms. Once we realized that we were manly enough to fight without francy pancy uniforms we cast them of and wore the manly plain uniforms. Merica
Of course, I also think lines should be able to move in double rank without having emotional breakdowns.

What duuring is trying to say:

Nw uniforms are nicer,and the general soldiers opinion to keep them nice and fresh, were far better than in the acw.

Well, lost items had to be paid for...So it's rather understandable.

Nevertheless, many men took a lot of pride from their regimental uniforms. And some cursed it.

Lt. Ninaber of the 3eme grenadiers (a guard regiment!) was so fed up with militairy life in 1811 he even send one of uniforms back home, telling his family to do whatever they like with the rag. He added some sarcastic suggestions which I can't recall.

Yes, but we realized were so manly that we didn't not need to wear fancy uniforms!
