Light Infantry

Can someone please tell me the difference between Light Infantry and Riflemen.
Also does LI follow skirmish tactics like Riflemen

I believe light infantry have muskets but have formations like skirmishers.
Never played either so someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Light infantry can defend themselves better with muskets, but only have a small accuracy buff over normal line infantry but can have 2-3 man spacings while crouching, rifleman have a bigger accuracy buff and and smaller retucule when firing. But cannot defend themselves against infantry or cavalry.

EDIT: i forgot rifleman can also use 4-5 man spacings. Depending on the event.

I always thought that rifleman were light infantry as well,but:

Riflemen = Light infantry with rifles

So Riflemen are light infantry, but not the other way around.


I always understood it as a poor classification of the game.

Skilled melee fighters as light infantry is one of the most OP designations in the game.

In the game it says that the skirmishing units are "skirmishers".  I don't think that one can be a skirmisher. I thought skirmishing was a tactic. Sure, one could be called a skirmisher using that tactic. But still. (Please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong.)

Actually, you can be a skirmisher. A skirmisher is a troop stationed ahead of the main army, raiding supplies, scouting locations and harassing the enemy.

Lol I was kidding, just expressing my frustration at dem campers. As for the PB_1 server specifically, Pirate_Battle is no longer a shooting-fest, with some of the newer maps, as well as the maximum 5-shot-per-person-per-map script. I applaud this change in scope.

Nice Off-Topic Question.
I found that I was 20% Watched approximately a few days ago.
Think it was for calling someone an "NA fgt" in a heated discussion in the Off Topic Board a few days ago - was probably something about the US or the ACW... I should have gotten an email from the FSE moderators, but, since I have set GMail to autmatically delete my spam folder every day, I probably didn't see it quick enough. I guess "fgt" counts as homophobia, so here I am.

I always find light Infantry to be restricted too much in events in terms of spacing. When I am skirmishing I really don't want to be worrying about getting perfect spacing and just focus on shooting. Rifles can also take on line infantry in a melee, done it many times myself. Just run away until they are spread out and pick them off and take their bayonets.
