What is NW for you?
« on: August 03, 2015, 03:36:18 am »
Napoleonic Wars is over three years old now, and for the people from Mount & Musket, they've been here even longer. There have been tons of regiments to rise and fall throughout NW's time so far, and many notable players joining and leaving the game. It's developed differently for many people; we can look back at regiments like the BAB and FH and others who put professionalism and winning aside to have good fun, we can look back at regiments like Tavington's 91st, 92nd, and 33rd, that provided both disciplined events but also a pretty large array of fun moments, and we can look back at regiments like the 9y and 12th (and Tavington's 91st), that really capitalized on the competitive scene of the game.

For a game this old and weathered (I for one still get super nostalgic with my old Colonel over my first real regiment back in 2012), it's a complicated topic for some to explain why they're still playing. But for those who know why, feel free to share why.

And where avoidable, please avoid saying the same old "it's ruined my life" or "im addicted" shit.

Mine: I've always kept an attachment to this game even after my first regiment, the 33e (not related to today's), disbanded. I loved staying up for hours into the morning laughing and joking and playing all sorts of games with the core members of that group, and I still try to keep in contact with those I still can. Every regiment since then that I've led were modeled a bit differently, but all trying to resurrect the old spirit of the 33e, I'll admit. In more recent time, leading my 91st months ago was great, because I felt much closer to the people of it than I had with other regiments since after 33e, and it hurt me dearly to see it fall because many sought more competitive or notable regiments. Being in the 92nd a while later was great, but I didn't feel as attached to its members, even the ones I've known prior to joining, but Littlefield was great at what he did and a real peoples person. He even spent the time to play other games with the people of the regiment outside of the pretty strict scene of the regiment.

How there are people who haven't gotten completely burned out on NW by now is beyond me.

It's fun, it has a whole bunch of cool people & clans.
It's a cool era. Really good melee even though many argue MM melee was better.

That's about it that's why I play.

Its Addicting But at the same time Its Gay/Horrible/lame. The Only Reason People Truly Keep Playing NW is Because of The Community tbh.

What keeps me playing NW is the thrill of trying to be the best at the game with the friends I have met over the years of playing NW. We're always trying to improve at our group game and enjoy playing with each other on other games as well. Even though we are looked down upon by most of the North American community, we love playing our own game. With no big stars, we were able to become one of the best just by working as a unit and we pride ourselves with that mentality.

After that, I would say what keeps me playing is being able to be competitive on a game that I actually invested time into and people knowing who I am. Yes, ego is a reason why I keep playing. But, I have improved my cocky attitude over the years and plan to keep doing so. I enjoy playing against people who say we're bad or trolly because that is another reason to keep playing the game. To prove people wrong.
