Star Citizen *Arena Commander V0.8 Released!*
« on: April 06, 2013, 07:58:15 pm »

I must stress it is very difficult to describe this game in one thread, so do some extra research aswell - using the link at the bottom of the post!

An Introduction

Star Citizen is a space simulator that incorporates the features of several past games and seeks to expand upon this is one game that includes both singleplayer campaign elements with the multiplayer open world experience. It includes 1 campaign on launch to be added on, and a massive ever expanding persistent universe with graphics that make PSNoob and Shitbox One wish they had invested in the PC market. Here are some smexy videos explaining the game in more detail than I could hope to do without writing a 6,000 word essay:

Development Plan

August 29th 2013 - Hanger Module Released: Allows backers to mess around with their pledge ships in a small, fixed environment. RELEASED

December 2013 - Dogfighting Alpha Released: Allows backers to, well, dogfight against other players and AI, but primarily used for balancing of ships and to stress test servers where a player cap per instance will be established (Estimated 60-100 players).

January 2014 - Planetside Modules: Allows backers to explore the cityscapes of planets letting them interact with one another.

Early 2014 - The SP Campaign Alpha: Allows backers to complete the entire single player campaign.

Mid-Late 2014 - Full game Beta: First iteration of the game to include the online persistant universe. The full game in the beta stage.

Early 2015/Late 2014 - Release: The final product is released and the weekly update cycle begins!

Backing The Project

Star Citizen was rejected by major publishers initially due to the belief that the market for space games of this nature was dead, so Chris Roberts, the developer, turned to the recently accredited Kickstarter where hard pressed artists of any nature can get their work funded through donations on the promise of exclusive content and such.

Star Citizen initially had a pledge goal of 500,000 USD on kickstarter and managed instead to achieve 2.5 million by the end of its kickstarter campaign. A healthy surplus which resulted in the addition of many new features. The game is now estimated by the developers to cost 20,000,000 USD to make and so far they have attained 34,000,000 USD through donations. 2 million in the past 6 days alone, and 1 million of that being from the past 2 - thus making Star Citizen the most crowd funded project ever.

So why donate? Well the reasoning is simple. It cannot be said now whether the game will be good, but currently for only 40 USD which is about 27 GBP (Fuck you, euros) you can get the following:

- 1,000 credits
- RSI Aurora (Shitty ship)
- Beta, Alpha and the final game
- 3 months ship insurance (Yolo for realism)

This might seem some what of a waste or a pay to win thing, but considering most new games cost 60 USD or 40 GBP (Again, fuck you euros) asking for a mere 40 USD for something as promising as this is not a lot. So consider donating and research more on the website because this shit is cheap!

The game is centred around the UEE, which is basically a human empire. You can land on planets and one of the locations is Moscow.

That's pretty damn awesome. If they could add 1st person combat and boarding parties and drop ships then it would be amazing.

All of that is in, they want to put you right in the action and i believe third person will not be an option but you will be right in the cockpit.
