History of the 8th King's Royal Hussars
Ireland had always been a great producer of horsemen and the Irish provided a disproportionate amount of cavalry regiments as compared to Scotland and Wales. The 8th Hussars were such a regiment; the Celtic legacy lives on, through the Angel harp and the crest of Armagh which surmounts the cap badge, in the Pipe band which flourishes, and most importantly in our retaining Northern Ireland, our oldest recruiting ground, for The Queen's Royal Hussars. The distinction of being a Royal Regiment comes originally from the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars.
They were formed in 1693 after James II had been pushed out of Ireland by the men of Ulster who had supported William of Orange against the Jacobite cause. The Commission for raising them was given to Colonel Henry Conyngham, thus their first title was Conyghams Dragoons. They soldiered at home for their first decade until the War of Spanish succession took them to Spain in 1704. The War became a series of skirmishes, one of the most unfortunate being Tanarite where, despite inflicting three times their own casualties, Conyngham himself was killed. Colonel Robert Killigrew took over and it was he who led the regiment at the battle of Almanza in 1707 alongside the 3rd and 4th Dragoons. It was a heavy defeat and Killigrews Dragoons lost more than half their numbers killed or captured as well as their Colonel again. Therefore, it was Pepper's Dragoons who reconstituted for the next two years and faced the enemy at Almenara in 1710, routing the Spanish cavalry and taking their crossbelts which they then used as a distinguishing mark; they became known as the "Crossbelt Dragoons". The campaign lingered on until 1713 but the 8th had already been captured en masse when Brihuega was captured in 1710.
In 1794 the 8th moved to the low countries for eighteen months of conflict. The first battle they fought on the continent in may surpassed even "The Charge of the Light Brigade" for bravery and devotion to duty. Two squadrons of the 8th charged a body of French infantry supported by four guns well positioned in a churchyard in the village of Bousbecque. The 8th Light Dragoons routed the infantry, jumped the churchyard walls and captured the guns. The casualties were staggering, of the 200 men who engaged the French, 186 were killed, wounded or captured. Lesser skirmishes followed for a year as the allies were pushed back into Germany and then left for England in November 1795. Just before their departure the regiment was heartened by a directive from George III that they should resume wearing buff accoutrements as a special mark of Royal favour. |

In 1854 the 8th Hussars embarked for the Crimea. The involved machinations of European politics which brought England and France together after two centuries of mortal conflict to fight against Russia, the quarrel over guardianship of the Holy places in Palestine and the Russian threat to the Mediterranean would have meant nothing to the 8th Hussars. They had already lost ninety-five men dead or seriously ill in the siege at Silestria before they arrived in the Crimea. The first battle was near the river Alma in September 1854 and the 8th Hussars were awarded the battle honour for a convincing defeat of the enemy. In October Balaklava and the immortal "Charge of the Light Brigade" took place. It was started when 25,000 Russians tried to capture Balaklava, the British Army's only port, defended by the 93rd Highlanders, some Turks and the Cavalry Division. Each detachment played an admirable part, the 93rd holding of six squadrons of enemy cavalry, the heavy Brigades success over far superior numbers of enemy Cavalry and finally the Charge of the Light Brigade.
The journey back through the same crossfire was far worse. One of the gallant remnants was Jemmy, a rough coated terrier, who survived and served with the regiment for another four years. The 8th Hussars lost sixty-six killed or missing of the 104 who charged. They spent a year in England but were called to India to help suppress the mutiny and were ready for war in February 1858. The most celebrated action of the war came three months later at Gwalior when a squadron of the 8th, under Captain Heneage trounced but found themselves embroiled with much larger enemy force trying to escape from Gwalior who they also charged and put into confusion, winning the battle in "One of the finest exploits of the war". General Sir Hugh Rose awarded the squadron four Victoria Crosses, one for the officers, one for the NCO's and two for the Corporals and troopers, all to be elected by their comrades. Captain Heneage, Sergeant Ward, Farrier Hollis and Private Pearson were chosen. The remaining year of the mutiny consisted of the pursuit of the rebel forces, and another Victoria Cross was awarded to Troop Sergeant Major Champion at Beejapore for taking over when all officers in his troop had been wounded, although he was seriously wounded himself, leading the charge and continuing to fight the enemy. The remainder of their time in India was peaceful and the regiment arrived back in York in 1864.
The 8th entered the trenches on the western front for the first time on the 9th December 1914, not having arrived home in time to take any part in the retreat from mons. They spent the whole War in the Ambala Brigade or first cavalry brigade next to native Indian mounted regiments, seeing their first action in December 1914 at Givenchy. The majority of their time was spent sending large parties forward to dig trenches and this continued for the whole span of the war. In the second battle for Ypres in may 1915 gas was first used by the Germans who expected a breakthrough which the 8th were sent forward to contain and this they did. Between 1952 and 1958 the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars soldiered in Luneburg enjoying an extended period of peace. This existence was ended by the news of the amalgamation with the 4th Queen's Own Hussars to form the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars, a sad end to one of the most battle hardened Cavalry Regiments who had given so much honour on so many continents to the British Crown.

Introduction to the 8th King's Royal Hussars
The 8th King's Royal Hussars is an international M&B Warband: Napoleonic Wars cavalry regiment formed in January 2017, from a small yet strong circle of new and veteran players. Since then, we have grown under the desire to promote respect, teamwork and a friendly atmosphere within M&B, but also any other games we play together. We are an international community; therefore we have a limitless amount of interesting cultures and people.
Focused on enjoying laid back yet competitive 1v1s and cavalry battles, we are a mix of veterans and new players, always willing to teach and to improve. In the 8th, a new player can easily improve with our friendly officers and members, teaching and guiding them throughout their time and more experienced players can join knowing they’ll be in competitive 1v1s with a huge variety of cavalry regiments and thriving under the helpful yet nonrestrictive leadership. Aside from 1v1s and cavalry battles, we regularly host in game tournaments of a wide variety to provide a well-rounded experience to any player and also tournaments or multi-player experiences in other games.
Respect and maturity are highly valued in this regiment as it ensures good relations and cohesion within our regiment, which is crucial in getting the win and enjoying ourselves. Any aspiring cadets must have a basic understanding of English and should focus on improving their individual ability and teamwork ability, conducting themselves with dignity and sophistication. We encourage members to communicate and play together as much as they can, not only on M&B, but on a wide variety of other games.

In-Game History
First beginnings of the core players which would establish the 8th started in May 2016 in a regiment known as the '150th Horde'. Every single one of the 150th members who would form the 8th eight months later were recruited from the Napoleonic Role-Play server. For many of the current 8th players, it was their first ever regiment experience. The 150th was led by WarClever who captained the 150th through 5 months of training, cavalry matches, linebattles and a bit of infantry on the side. This period saw a massive change in skill, transforming from role-play casuals into more competitive players. In October, WarClever left the game and the regiment disbanded.
In order to stop the small community the 150th had from dissipating, the more active cavalry players decided to join the '48th Highlanders' as its new cavalry detachment. Led by Cage, the early period of the 48th Cavalry saw many harsh defeats, but was also beneficial to our skill and teamwork, primarily through trial and error. As time went on, the 48th cavalry saw improvement with more victories and decided to sign up for league two of the 4th edition of the 'Cavalry Napoleonic Wars League' in late 2016. This league saw many highlights for the 48th cavalry, pushing the boundaries of what we knew about the game. The 48th cavalry became runner-ups, ending up with 17 points with 5 victories, 2 draws, and 1 loss. Immediately after the conclusion of the tournament, the players from the 150th-turned-48th knew they had to pursue competitive cavalry without the over-arching duties of being a detachment.
Again led by Cage, the 8th King's Royal Hussars was formed on the 18th January 2017, with the aim of providing a place for our members to stay as a community, play games together, act independently and progress to challenge the established cavalry regiments in the wider community. This time saw the most improvement in teamwork and individual skill, with 15 months of consistent activity, trainings and fights. The 8th finished off 2017 strong, with a W/D/L ratio of 40/2/5.

Then, in mid-2018, the 8th entered league 1 of the 5th edition of the ‘Cavalry Napoleonic Wars league’. After 2 months of competition, the 8th managed to achieve third, in front of the 9e and Nr6 and behind the 4e and 14pk with 6 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Later in 2018, running from August to October, the 8th participated in the Hussar’s Cup. This intense tournament saw the 8th beating both the Nr4 and Nr6, to narrowly lose in the final 4-6 to the 4e. The 8th finished 2018 with a W/D/L ratio in competitive matches of 20/3/4, including the matches played in the CNWL and the Hussar’s Cup. After our 3rd anniversary event, Cage stepped down as captain and the 8th entered a partial period of inactivity that lasted up until May of 2019.
Revitalised and under a new command structure of Stannis and Aless, the 8th entered the second season of the Cavalry Champions league, having missed the first season earlier in the year (although this was never completed). Despite an unlucky loss to the Nr4 and 4e, the 8th was the only regiment which managed to beat the DCL in a nail-biting match, securing a third place finish behind the DCL and 4e. Throughout this time and into late 2020, the 8th continued to be one of the most active communities within the game. This allowed us to enter the 2020 Cavalry League with a sense that this could just be our year. An impressive performance against the Heavy Cavaly Coalition showed that the heavy dominance of the past few years was at an end, and after a intense matchup against the 2Lr and Nr4, the 8th faced the 4e. Both regiments had won every game up until this point, so whoever won the match, won the tournament. In true final fashion, the clash of the two titans of the community proved to be one of the most high-level matches ever played. The end result was 6-4 to the 8th in an almost 2-hour matchup, securing the 8th 1st place and title of Cavalry League Champions.

Well, 16v16 is pretty low for us actually. For the most part we tend to bring 20+ people to 1v1s (a lot of them have to sit in spec due to the opponents not having the same amount of men) which is why if we did it on another day where you can bring those numbers you said above and as can we, the score would have been a much better reflection of the regiments that played.
A few of our top players couldn't make it and from our point of view that did affect our score that day. Also, our morale was already quite low from suffering our first ever defeat (GG 10ph) a couple of days before.
On a side note, I'd like to acknowledge how well Piccolomini, Frank, Jones, Tom and I did against the 7e GF team in a 5v5, bringing it back from 2-7 to them to 8-10. It was a very intense match that lasted almost an hour and a half. GG to both teams on that.

Well actually I'm not even apologizing for our guys. But I'm just saying that the match was organized as a non-competetive train match and we were trying to test a new way of teamplay.
The 8th has played pretty good, without a doubt and I would really look forward to an "offical" match.

From primarily Napoleonic Role Play players, our core structure has been built up into a regiment that has become one of the best in the cavalry community. Obviously, this was supplemented by the addition of players along the way but the founding players of the regiment have always stayed and that's probably the reason we have made it so long in such a trash game olol. Last week we celebrated this occasion with a snazzy little event where I forced people to play to the death for my ammusement. The winners of the horse races were Tim&Aless, the gf tourney ( https://challonge.com/r6ek5y9n ) was won by team fir99ers (Quack, Andros and Tim) and the PUBG games were won by Piccolomini, Vaggelaros and Tim. Overall, it was a really lovely event with a great atmosphere and it's a great finish to active events as we will be easing back on the amount of events during the CCL. This was done because all of the officers (including myself) have got a lot of studying and work to focus on and it wasn't possible for us to commit fully to a 14-week event. Our presence would have been half-assed and not at all a reflection of what we've accomplished in the duration of the past two years. So therefore we won't be participating (although some of our players are mercing for other regs during the CCL) but we will be back to rekking everyone (apart from God-like Erik) after we all get some more time. Also some nice photography A-level worthy screens are in the spoiler!!!!

Kudos on 2 years guys, you guys have been an example of how any regiment should be in this community: fun, skilled and friendly. As I've already told you I'm pretty sad that you guys aren't participating to the CCL as you'd have been one of the greatest contenders for the title for sure (but at least I get to enjoy Cage's voice added to his usual nudes). The 8th King's Royal Hussars will have a break for Christmas and New Year until the 13th of January
This year has been really sad for some of us due to COVID.
No one was expecting something like this to happen and the lives of many people have changed, many plans have been ruined and some people may even have lost relatives.
Thankfully I hope that the community we have been building over the past years were some kind of refuge to forget and to have fun.
These past months for us have been very active, with many different types of events. We even managed to finally win a tournament!

This year especially has been so hard for many. Exceptional circumstances have left people in so many difficult situations. I've been so grateful for this community over this time because it has been a refuge and a comfortable place to escape to even just for a little bit everyday. For that im so incredibly thankful. We've had great fun this year and will be looking forward to our 4th year anniversary event on the 18th jan! Make sure you check up on your loved ones, friends and family especially if they're alone this year or have had plans cancelled, or are working over the festive period. Today our regiment reaches his 4th birthday.
When my old regiment of spanish disbanded ( Húsares de Cantabria - 2ºCoraceros de la Reina) after years of activity in this game, I, as many other players have experienced, felt left out of the community for a while.
During this time of searching a new community, and after many try outs and failures in other regiments I found my self joining the 8th thanks to Lorucas' advice. Never thought the regiment would actually grew on me, up to dedicating it and experience some of the best years of what this game can give. I don't regreat joining, not a bit, as I feel as home as when I joined my first regiment.
And 3 years later here we are, celebrating our 4th year of existance.

4 Years
Today marks 4 years since the 8th was formed. Even though it seems like a long time ago, that time has gone so quickly. Some have been playing with us since 2015, some have joined within the past couple years and many have come and gone but each have left their mark on our community. From a group of random NRPers, we have become a successful team, a thriving and wide gaming community and a strongly knit group of friends from across the world. From casually playing in the old 150th, we made our way to the 48th Highlanders and later going on to form the 8th, one of the strongest regiments in the game, and an amazing thing to witness and be a part of.
Despite it all being centred around this shitty and buggy game, the community that has evolved around this regiment and its friendly rivals has been a real rock to rely on especially in the times we find ourselves in where there is nothing but uncertainty. From stupid web games, to our videos and special events (Andros’ birthday, pyrosz funeral, SteFan shouting), jackbox and drawing games, to films nights with the 4e and others, there’s been an endless supply of entertainment, arguments and deep 3am chats every day for the past years to keep us all going.
Obviously, we wouldn’t have been able to reach where we are without the wider community putting in effort to make this all worth playing. Regiments like the 7e, 9e, Nr6, Nr4, 2Lr, 1er, heavies and 4e have always kept us on our toes and with those putting in effort to host events there’s always been that interest for us to keep going, especially for that end goal of winning a cav league which after almost 4 years we were finally able to do. Our biggest failure, however, being Rastignac narrowly losing a sponsorship deal with Rimmel cosmetics.
I only hope that after all this, I would have known it was all worth it when I get drunk in a random European city and the probability is through this game I’ll at least know one person I can stay over at.
But for now, this Friday we have our anniversary event and later this spring we’ll be participating in the hussar cup to hopefully show we aren’t just a one-hit wonder.

The fact it not only still exists but is thriving as the current champions of the cavalry community is nothing short of astounding and I, for one, I'm not completely ashamed to be a part of that. In fact:Despite having suffered years upon years of near constant bullying, harassing and inapropriate behaviour I can proudly say that I'm part of the group of complete and utter retards known as the 8th.

This post is quite late coming since we disbanded a little while ago and it is mainly due to me being away and working but also in part me not knowing quite what to write or how to say it. Baffling as it may be, I’m sat here pushed to reflect in one post four and a half years of a community that has not only done so much within that time, but developed and grown over some of the most important years of our lives to become something I am genuinely so proud of today. Now we aren’t just a collection of random players in a regiment, but a solid group of mates.
Starting the regiment back in January 2017, I had no real expectations of where it would go or how it would develop from a tight-knit group all from NRP. As time went on, people came and went, some stuck around, some left the game, and some players went elsewhere. Everyone, however, left their mark on the regiment and brought something to it. Being as competitive, active and big as we were for so long, the biggest achievement for me was its consistency in both activity and atmosphere. This space we created was something to look forward to joining every night and we had fun- it was a real rock for me and a lot of people especially in times where you did need that escapism. This community provided that and even after we stop playing this game; that will continue.
A lot of people put a lot of effort into the maintenance and running of the regiment and throughout that time we had wanted to be competitive- we were always among the top regiments and we did finally managed to achieve that by finally winning the cavalry league last year. Playing other regiments had always been the strangest but most rewarding experiences to have on this game. Close matches gave us that intensity- the happiness of winning and the anger of losing -which always meant we were trying to win and better how we played individually and as a team. Even as we got older and cared less and less there would always be an occasional match where the switch flicked and we found the fire that made the game so nerve-racking. Biggest take-away from that though was the relationship we had with other communities. That’s really what made the game. Regiments like the 4e, 9e, Nr6, Nr4, 1er, 2Lr, 7e, 6e, 5e, and the heavies brought competition and some of the people in different communities (mainly our bond with the 4e) have become great friends we will keep going forward.
Maintaining the 8th always depended on a group of people to rely on. When I wasn’t there or when attendance was low we always had a core group of people to rely on the whole time. I cannot thank the team we had enough for that. The leadership of Stannis, Aless and Andros in the running of events, the undying commitment of Sebi, Lightning and Quack, the humour and trolling of Tom Freyr and Krishna, the raw skill of Tim, Shadey and Stefan and the Nr4 guys of Felix and Octa, the charm of the Italians Frank and Picco, the overwhelming presence of all the Spaniards, the joy brought to the ts whenever Baxter, Rastignac or Harford joins and a lot more brought by a lot of people I haven’t mentioned. That’s what ultimately made the 8th what it is and something I will always be proud of.
Right now and for the future, we have a community discord so we can stay in touch and we are still a community playing games together all the time. I was only going to disband on that condition: that we would stay as a community. Mainly because we have spent all this time building this it would be a shame not to keep it going as to not surpass the game. But as it stands, we have and we will continue to do so. So in summary, the best regiment has now gone, 4e is shite and the game has now died but we still best friends for life.

I fully enjoyed my time in this regiment. Unfortunately it was only for about six months.
But every Event with this group of crazy, but talented, but still very crazy guys brought a lot of fun and was worth attending.
I will not only remember this regiment for its great community of like-minded people from all over europe, but also for a place where i could unfold my Mount & Blade Gameplay in a competitive team to enjoy the (seemingly) last period of this awesome game in the best possible way.
Considering all this, i am proud that i was a member of the 8th and that i am still connected to its community by our bond, which includes more than just Mount & Blade.
