Your Ancestry
« on: September 11, 2015, 01:59:26 am »
I thought this would be a good topic to get going, if anyone has traced genes and blood to the Napoleonic Wars.

Military is in my blood. My great grandfather, George Griffin, was a Sargent Major in the 1st Australian Light Horse. He was killed in the Boer Wars and the first Australian to be KIA overseas. His name is in a memorial in the Sydney City.

His grandfather before him was a Captain in the 48th Regiment of Foot, called Francis Allman.

Read about it here: http://www.hagsoc.org.au/sagraves/bios/griffin.php

My 4x Great Grandfather was a Piper in the British Military on my Scottish side. Apparently I come from a long line of bagpipers, I decided not to carry on the tradition :P but my dad has played for 20 or so years. My 3x Great Grandfather was a founder/leader guy in the Irish Republican Army. After he was arrested he was deported to Canada ---> Moved to murica cuz Canada blows

I'm assuming that my ancestry on my mother's side could be traced back to revolutionary france since my great grandmother moved to quebec sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s, she was from france and her family was of french decent. I have family that fought in the civil war, one even went missing during it although we aren't sure if he was a soldier, basically when the war broke out, he left and never came back, we have no documents of him afterwards. I also have a great uncle who was a pilot and disappeared during one of his flights, i have his airforce cap in my room.

German+English dating back to our family name being inscribed on some cathedral wall in York. I had one relative that has a plaque up at King's Mountain, NC, explaining how he fought not only there but also at Cowpens. Another relative fought all the way up to Gettysburg and while  marching back down to the south, he died of a fever. More recently, I can't really think of anything other than my grandfather who was working with Russians during WW2 to guard oil.

One of my old ancestors, was a Col. in the revolutionary war and another was a Brig Gen for the South and lead an entire Cavalry Regiment. The Brig Gen was killed by a gunboat and the Col. died of old age. There were others in my family like them and I had captains and mainly officers as well. But no one was as high as those two in that time period or zone.
