Is it okay?

No absolutely not. Not even if it would mean reduced prices for video games.

Shameless advertising in video games.
« on: December 27, 2015, 07:22:24 pm »
So recently Nike launched a new ads campaign inside the video game NBA 2K16 - https://i.imgur.com/a/TDArj

Now I know most people on this forum don't care about sports games, but I still would find it an interesting topic.
Is it okay to launch ad campaigns inside our video games?

This has been a thing forever. The URBZ: Sims in the City, or whatever it's called, for XBOX, had Verizon ads on billboards throughout the city. It worked and was a cool way to show advertisements. It made the game easier to fund and release, and looking at modern games like NBA 2k16, it makes sense, as long as basketball products are sold in basketball games.

I don't see something like this that reduces how much a game will cost (which often is out of what can be afforded) as a bad thing. If this is something in BCoF, as long as I don't have to see ads for YouTube pages and products like Lootcrate, it's fine. That said, since the game is set long in the past, I don't see any modern products fitting in.

Most previous ad campaigns have added free stuff like a drive able Mercedes in Mario kart some buildings in Sim City etc, which could sort of justifies the ads I guess. Now this however is a straight up ad campaign without any profit for the player.

Nike in a basketball game makes it actually a bit more realistic I think...

It's totally acceptable that sport advertisements are being advertised on sports games. Like Virathius said, it kind of makes the game a bit more realistic.
